Technological Inventions in 1800

In Wattpad (2011), it was realized that the impacts of industrialization could be felt across the whole world. This necessitated the development of better transportation and communication technologies between 1800 and 1850 which were perceived to have great significance to both economic and military activities. This was because as business was undergoing increased needs to reach and meet the demands of their clients, military officials from the U.S and Europe were more concerned with the happenings in other parts of the world. As a result Western Europe together with United States was recognized as the leaders in most technological inventions (Wattpad 2011)

.According to Wattpad (2011), in 1814, Mr. Stephenson George invented the very first steam locomotion engine. Besides this invention, the first plastic surgery, which was successfully carried out, was witnessed. In addition, Joseph Fraunhofer came up with the spectroscope which could be utilized in the viewing process of any form of glowing material. In the same year, Nicephore Niepse set an Obscura machine and made a break through in taking images of objects. However, his camera could register an image in a span of eight hours. In 1815, there was the development of Miner’s lamp by a scientist by the name Humphrey Davy. In 1819, there were two major inventions of stethoscope and soda fountain. These were due to the efforts of Rene Laennec and Samuel Fahnestock respectively. In 1823, a machine known as Mackintosh was invented by a Scottish by the name Charles Mackintosh. This was followed by inventions of toy balloon as other English men made successful attempts toward patenting Portland cement. However, in 1825, the only invention which was witnessed was that of electromagnet by a scientist known as William Sturgeon. In addition, the idea and development of matches was developed by John Walker in 1827 as Charles Wheatstone invented microphone in the same year. In 1829, writing and learning inventions were developed by W.A. Burt. In his invention, Burt managed to develop typewriter as some men from France developed brail which could be used in teaching the blind people. In addition, this same year was marked with patenting of typographer, which was first developed before typewriter came to face. Similarly greater inventions were made by Germany which invented a telegraph network in the year 1830s. This telegraph was capable of spanning 8000 feet. In addition 1930s was marked with the invention of sewing machine by one of the French scientist by the name Barthelemy Thimonnier. Besides George Ohm invented Ohm’s law which helps in explaining how electron move in a conductor.  In 1831, Cyrus McCormick from United States invented a reaper which could be used for commercial purposes. This was accompanied by inventions Michael Faraday who developed the electric dynamo. In 1932, Wheatstone made another invention in stereoscopes which after six years, was patented. These two inventions ideally served as the platform for further inventions in 1840s (Wattpad 2011).

According to Bellis (1997), in 1835, Charles Babbage came up with mechanical calculator through the use of punch holes. This happened alongside inventions by English men, Henry Talbot and Francis Pettit who invented collotype and propeller respectively. In 1836, Francis P. also participated in the development of co-propeller as revolver was also developed by Samuel C. Consequently, in 1837, an English individual introduced the idea of postage stamp as Samuel M. came up with the telegraph idea. This was later followed by the development of its code in 1838 by the same scientist. In 1839, two Americans, Charles G and Thaddeus F. invented the vulcanization of rubber and platform scales respectively. In the same year, Sir William R. developed a hydrogen fuel cell (Bellis, 1997).

Inventions went on until 1840 which marked the development of blue print as an idea of Herschel J. (Bellis, 1997).In the mid 1840s, there was widespread use of the developed telegraph as US could be seen spending large amount of dollars, $30,000 to run the telegraph from all the way from Washington to Baltimore. It was during this period, mid 1840s, that Samuel F. B. Morse was in the process of inventing the code and device to be used by the telegraph thus the name Morse code. Furthermore1840 was marked with the invention of two chemicals used for medical purposes in initiating unconsciousness as well as relieving pain. These were chloroform and ether. Similarly, there was invention followed by refinement of previously developed primitive bulbs in the year 1845. These primitive bulbs were later refined by Thomas Edison, in the year 1879, who came up with decent ones but could only stay for two days. The development of such decent bulbs also necessitated a shift from the old gas lighting to electrical lighting (Bellis, 1997).

.According to Wattpad (2011), in 1842, John D. established a grain elevator. This was followed by an invention of Alexander B. on facsimile in the year 1843. When it reached 1844, mercerized cotton was developed by a scientist known as John M. Since anesthesia had long been invented, Dr. William Mouton, in 1846, made its successful use in the removal of teeth. In 1846, major inventions were witnessed in antiseptics by Ignaz S. Textile technology also realized some inventions in 1851 when Singer developed a sewing machine. In 1858, the first internal combustion engine was witnessed attributed to the invention efforts of Jean Lenoir. This was followed by major bicycle invention by Linus Y. in the year 1861.
