Sony Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra vs. Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra – what's new?

Earlier this week, at CES 2018, Sony unveiled two new mid-range Android Oreo smartphones that succeed the Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra of last year. Called Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra, the new handsets are already available to pre-order in the US, being offered unlocked for $349 and $449, respectively.

While Sony didn’t drastically change the design of its new Xperia XA family, the XA2 and XA2 Ultra look better than their predecessors, thanks in no small part to their reduced top and bottom bezels. Another thing that’s almost instantly noticeable on both handsets is the presence of fingerprint …

Sony releases official hands-on video to present the Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra, Xperia L2

A couple of days ago, Sony went official with its brand-new phones — the upper-midrange Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra, and the budget Xperia L2. They are pretty-cool looking handsets, aimed at the traditionalists that like their phone to have that stark, rectangular look that Sony’s been touting for a while now.

The company has just released its own hands-on video for the three handsets. We get nice closeup shots and the specs of the phones reiterated. But it’s a nice, condensed way to get acquainted with the new handsets in case you missed them on entry.

We had our time to check …

Traditions matter: Sony announces the Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra

It’s Sony time at CES 2018 and the company has announced the two new phones in the XA line — the Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra. Let’s see what they are about!

The good old design
Sony is pretty much a traditionalist when it comes to design. Each new iteration of its smartphones has a minor update in looks — just enough to make it look modern, but still hold a classic spirit. The new XA phones are no exception. There is no 18:9 display here, no wild, futuristic endevours. Just the well-known rectangle.

That said, the XA line has had razor-thin side bezels since inception …

Size comparison: Sony Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra vs other midrangers

So, Sony has just revealed its two new midrangers. And, just as usual, the manufacturer has evolved its design language, but ever so slightly. The XA2 duo looks modern… yet classic. Of course, we are talking about the rectangular look and the meaty top and bottom bezels. But, at the very least, the XA line has always been about super-thin side bezels and that doesn’t change with the XA2 and XA2 Ultra.

So, they are a 5.2-inch phone and a 6-inch phablet, respectively. And those are not 18:9, super-narrow displays, no… They are good ol’, classic 16:9 monsters. So, how do the new Sony midrangers …

Sony Xperia XA2 hands-on

Sony apparently loves its ‘super’ mid-range phones, evident in how CES 2018 is seeing a pair of brand new phones coming to market starting in February. Now, if you’re the kind of user that appreciates hand-friendly sized phones, like those that are relatively easy to manipulate using just a single hand, then you’ll surely appreciate what the upcoming Sony Xperia XA2 will offer.
We spent a little bit of time checking out the Sony Xperia XA2, the successor the Xperia XA1, which shockingly was only released a short time ago back in the fall – soon after …

Specs comparison: Xperia XA2 Ultra vs ZenFone 4 vs Moto Z2 Play

So, Sony’s new midrangers are out – the Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra. With a mix between premium design and mid-tier hardware, they will try to please the selfie-lovers that like to have a nice phone on hand without necessarily breaking the bank.

Let’s take a look at the XA2 Ultra, for example — a wide-angle, 8 MP selfie camera is next to a 16 MP, OIS-assisted selfie camera, and there’s a LED flash up front as well. Obviously aimed at the selfie-loving youngsters, the handset still has a lot to offer under the hood as well — a massive battery, a good amount of RAM, generous storage… …

In 2017, Sony released no less than eight Xperia smartphones,
from affordable to expensive models, and it looks like the company has similar
plans for this year. While many fans are probably waiting for Sony’s 2018

We’ve already seen leaked images showing the Xperia XA2, XA2
Ultra, and L2. However, now, thanks to Venture Beat, we can take a look at press renders of the new
