Google removes changes made to improve battery life on Wear OS preview beta

When Google wanted to extend the battery life of smartwatches running on Wear OS, it came up with a plan. Qualcomm’s new wearables chip would conserve battery life, and receive help from the reduced background activity of apps on Wear OS. But after gathering feedback from developers using a beta version of the preview software, Google decided to forgo the changes which returned the Wear OS preview beta for developers to its previous state.
Unlike Android P, which limits the background activity of smartphone apps that are used the least, the change to Wear OS blocked …

Samsung Gear S4 with Wear OS? Nah, just a Galaxy Watch with Tizen…

With all the rumors and actual actions by Samsung to move its accessories away from the Gear branding, one would be forgiven to think that an eventual Gear S4 transformation into a Galaxy Watch could bring more than a line name change.

A recent tip from one of the world’s most prolific leaksters, Even Blass of @evleaks fame, came as if to reinforce such a conclusion, saying that Gear watches with Android’s Wear OS edition have been spotted on Samsung folks, and we all know that Samsung uses its own Tizen OS for those wearables, so, for a brief amount of time, we thought …

New LG Wear OS smartwatch, the LM-W319, visits the FCC

Last month, an LG Wear OS powered smartwatch appeared at the FCC carrying the model number LM-W315. The only solid information we could get from the FCC documentation was an image of the Wear OS UI that was shown in relation to the watch’s use of the FCC’s E-Label technology. Now, it appears that a second LG smartwatch, the LM-W319, has also made a visit to the FCC.
Again, there isn’t much to discuss from the FCC documentation. We do know that the timepiece will employ the FCC’s E-Label, and once again we are given a similar image of the Wear OS UI which tells us that …

Marc Jacobs Riley Touchscreen becomes the latest Wear OS smartwatch

Despite the lack of activity outside of the Apple Watch line when it comes to smartwatches, Marc Jacobs has just announced one of the first all-new Wear OS watches in a while, the Riley Touchscreen.
Currently, Marc Jacobs already offers an extensive line of hybrid smartwatches that allow users to receive their smartphone notifications via the wearables. However, with the new Riley Touchscreen offering, Marc Jacobs has thrown itself into true smartwatch territory, with the Wear OS device offering a 1.19-inch AMOLED display. Additionally, this …

Why summer is hell for people who wear glasses

TwitterFacebook

Ah, summer. It’s the time of sunshine, barbecues, beach trips, and abbreviated Fridays. It’s also the time when I, at least six times per day, want to pitch my stupid glasses into the beautiful, sparkling ocean.

Summer is absolute hell for the glasses wearer. We don’t talk about this enough! Sure, it is a “mild annoyance” and “not that big of a deal,” but the sooner we give voice to these issues, the sooner I can stop complaining about them at parties and ruining the vibe.

Fellow glasses people, are you with me?

Let’s begin with sunglasses, which are a whole thing for us. Prescription sunglasses exist, yes, but they are expensive — often as expensive as a regular pair of glasses. Even if you do manage to acquire a pair, you have to deal with the awkward dance between your prescription sunglasses and your regular glasses.  Read more…

Mobvoi unveils new TicWatch Pro smartwatch powered by Wear OS

Mobvoi, the company that recently released the Wear OS update for its two TicWatch smartwatches, has just announced the upcoming availability of yet another wearable device powered by Google’s platform.

The new TicWatch Pro is a step up from the previous TicWatch S and E smartwatches, both in terms of specs and price. According to Mobvoi, the TicWatch Pro will be available for purchase in the US this summer for less than $300, and an LTE model is in the cards as well.

The price is more than decent considering the TicWatch Pro comes with heart rate sensor, NFC (Near Field Communication) …

Samsung employees are said to be wearing Wear OS powered Gear smartwatches

A flood of rumors about the Samsung Gear S4 smartwatch recently crossed our desks, and we passed them along to you right away. For example, earlier this month we heard that the timepiece, reportedly code named Galileo, will be offered in two sizes. The LTE version of the device is supposedly going to be available from Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T. A fresher rumor that we passed along just a couple of days ago, suggests that Sammy’s new smartwatch could carry the Galaxy name and be pre-installed with Wear OS. The latter is the operating system for wearables that was formerly known as Android …

Mobvoi Ticwatch E and S smartwatches are getting Android Oreo Wear OS updates

Since Google introduced its new platform for wearable devices, Wear OS, many smartwatch makers announced their customers they will provide the update at some point this year. The Mobvoi team said back in February that two of its smartwatches, the Ticwatch S and Tickwach E will be updated to Android Wear sometime during the month of March.

A month later, the company backtracked on its initial statement and said that due to unexpected circumstances, the Android Oreo Wear update for these smartwatches had to be delayed to the end of April.

In early May, Mobvoi finally confirmed that, …

Best Wear OS watch faces: analog, digital, modern, stylish

If you happen to be a proud owner of a couple of oil wells, then chances are you can afford having several sparkling Swiss-made watches and switch between them depending on the occasion – one for golfing, one for those fancy receptions, one for an afternoon of sailing the yacht across the bay, and so on. That kind of luxury is beyond the grasp of mere mortals, but a Wear OS smartwatch can be the ideal alternative.

One of the many things to love about smartwatches is how switching to a different watch face can feel like having a completely different timepiece. But with thousands of watch …

Google releases Wear OS Phone app featuring Quick Replies option

Google has recently released a brand new Wear OS Phone app aimed at those who own smartwatches that have already been updated to the new version of the wearable platform. With the Wear OS Phone app, users will be able to make calls from their smartwatches, but Google added a couple of other nifty features as well.

For example, Quick Replies allows users of the app to quickly respond to a call via SMS, which comes in handy when there’s no time to take that call. But that’s not all, as the app features Streamlined Outgoing Calls, which is supposed to provide Wear OS Phone users with a streamlined …
