Nowadays, water-resistance or at least some type of splash-resistance seem to be a must on flagship (and midrange) smartphones. It used to be a rare commodity and mostly featured on rugged phones like the Galaxy Active series or any one of those tanky CAT handsets. Now, you can usually breathe calmly when your phone is near the kitchen sink or next to a spilled drink.

Nowadays, water-resistance or at least some type of splash-resistance seem to be a must on flagship (and midrange) smartphones. A feature that used to be reserved to the rugged CAT handsets, Galaxy Actives, or phones covered by super-ugly cases is now pretty much mainstream. And sure, it definitely gives us a peace of mind when we have our handset near the kitchen sink, but we certainly still don’t feel brave enough to go ahead and jump in a pool with our phones in hand (despite the fact that Samsung and Sony commercials keep enticing us to do so).

HTC U (Ocean) to feature IP57 certification rating against dust and water

ROM developer @LlabTooFeR has a solid record when it comes to revealing features about HTC devices, In a series of three tweets disseminated today, he posted some interesting information about the manufacturer’s upcoming flagship phone, the HTC U (codenamed Ocean). According to the developer, the phone will carry an IP certification rating of 57. That means users will be able to submerge the phone in water as deep as 3.3 feet for as long as 30-minutes, without any damage to the device. It also means that the phone is protected against solid bodies larger than 1mm in size.

The LG G6 is definitely water resistant

LG today released a short video that officially confirms one of the important features of its upcoming G6 flagship: the smartphone is water resistant. The video (embedded above) doesn’t really tell us anything else, so we don’t know just how resistant to water the G6 is. In any case, we’re expecting the phone to be at least IPx7-certified, meaning it should offer the same level of water resistance as the iPhone 7 series (if not higher).
