Video is flipped upside down on the Skype for Windows Mobile 10 Universal app

Some users of the Skype Universal Windows Platform app for Windows 10 Mobile are noticing that a bug is flipping the image for video calls upside down. One complaint, posted on a community forum, came from a man who used the app on his Lumia 950 XL to call his Wife’s Lumia 950. The couple used the front-facing camera on each of their Windows 10 Mobile powered handsets, and both received the video stream upside down.

Ironically, even though the app is made for the Universal Windows Platform, the PC version of it is not experiencing the same issue. According to some Windows 10 Mobile users, …

New sunglasses can record HD video, snap photos, and stream video live to social media sites

Back in September 2016, Snapchat parent Snap introduced a new product called Spectacles. Basically a cheap pair of sunglasses with an embedded video camera, the device was priced at $129.99 and recorded 10 seconds of video everytime the “record button” was tapped. A maximum of 30 seconds could be recorded and uploaded to social media. Originally sold out of a vending machine that moved from location to location, the company announced last October that in one year it had sold over 150,000 units, 50% more than expected. Once Snapchat started selling them online, sales began to tumble.

YouTube star Logan Paul apologises for video depicting an apparent victim of suicide

TwitterFacebook

YouTube star Logan Paul has issued an apology for posting a video containing footage of an apparent victim of suicide, but it might not be enough for some.

In the now-removed video, the 22-year-old vlogger visited Japan’s Aokigahara forest on the northwestern flank of Mount Fuji. The forest’s name translates to the “Sea of Trees” but is known internationally as the “Suicide Forest,” the site of hundreds of suicides every year.

According to New York Magazine, Paul posted a video to his 15 million YouTube subscribers with the title “We found a dead body in the Japanese Suicide Forest…” that was meant to be the third part of his “Tokyo Adventures,” series. The publisher reports that the video contained footage of a person who had apparently died by suicide, with their face blurred. Read more…

Apple posts new video tutorial showing you how to use Apple Pay on the iPhone X

When Apple unveiled its tenth anniversary model in September, it was obvious that certain features would require some tweaking due to the replacement of Touch ID with Face ID. One of those features is Apple Pay. With other iPhone models that are compatible with Apple Pay, using the mobile payment service requires a press of the Touch ID button to verify the identity of the person making the payment. With the iPhone X, verifying the user’s identity is done with Face ID.

To show iPhone X owners how this is done, Apple has released a 41 second video titled “Apple Pay-How to pay with …

You can now start a Duo video chat right in the middle of a regular phone call

Google has started rolling out a new feature on its Phone app that allows a Duo video call to be started up in the middle of a regular voice call. Labeled “Video call” and paired with the Duo icon, pressing this button will disconnect the original phone call and launch the Duo app on both ends of the conversation.

If the recipient of the call isn’t decent, or doesn’t want to be on camera for one reason or another, the …

Here’s some bad news for those of you with the OnePlus 5 or OnePlus 5T. According to a OnePlus forum member with the handle of whatthefunk, neither the OnePlus 5 nor the OnePlus 5T have the necessary Widevine Level 1 Certification required to stream certain DRM protected content in HD. Streaming apps that would be affected by this include Google Play Movies, Netflix, and Amazon Video. YouTube can stream in HD on both handsets. Both phones currently carry support for Widevine Level 3.

Being unable to stream videos in HD from popular video apps is certainly not what consumers would expect …
