Samsung Gear S3 to receive Tizen 3.0 OS update at some point

The newly introduced Samsung Gear Sport is the only smartwatch that will ship with Tizen 3.0 OS on board. All other Samsung smartwatches are powered by a previous version of Tizen, which makes the Gear Sport more appealing.

Still, Samsung fans who already purchased the Gear S3 will be pleased to know the South Korean company plans to provide them with a Tizen 3.0 OS update at some point in the future.

Reliable sources told AndroidPit that Samsung Gear S3 will receive the Tizen 3.0 OS update, but they failed to mention when exactly it will happen.

Update to Google Maps allows Oreo's Picture-in-Picture feature to work on the app

One of the most anticipated features on Android 8.0 is Picture-in-Picture. This allows you to watch videos in a “floating window” while you have an app open. In the case of Google Maps, an update to version 9.60 allows you to watch the map in a separate PiP window while in navigation mode. The previous update to Google Maps added support to Picture-in-Picture, but there were issues with the rendering and the whole thing just didn’t work out. With the latest update, the feature works perfectly. Of course, you have to be using a device that is powered by Android Oreo for this to work.

The last we heard about Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone was that it would ship within seven days. That was on August 16th. But the good news today is that the device has finally shipped, which means that some of those who pre-ordered early should soon receive confirmation that their Essential Phone is on the way. The orders are not all being shipped at the same time, which means that if you do not receive a shipping notice, don’t panic. You might receive it in the next day or three.

UPDATE: Several PhoneArena readers have reported to us that the Essential Phone did not ship yesterday as earlier …
