Siri's "Give me the news" feature is out of beta indicating an upcoming launch of the Apple HomePod

A recent feature that allows Apple’s virtual assistant Siri to respond to a request to “Give me the news” with a few minutes of top stories, is now out of beta. In the states, the default newscast comes from NPR’s News Now podcast, which is also where Amazon’s Alexa has been getting her news from. It is interesting that Apple is now adding some Alexa-style capabilities to Siri in anticipation of the company’s release of its HomePod smart speaker. After all, Alexa became popular thanks to its placement on Amazon’s top selling Echo smart speaker product.

Here is what Samsung's upcoming foldable smartphone may look like

It’s pretty clear that, if nothing wrong happens, Samsung will launch its first ever foldable smartphone. It will probably be available in limited quantities, but it will be the first step to mass production.

The South Korean company filed at least half a dozen patents that contain schematics of what appear to be foldable phones. The last one dates from this week and may give us a clue as to where Samsung wants to go with this so-called “foldable smartphone.”

The new concept looks slightly sleeker than the previous images we’ve seen, probably due to the fact …

HTC's upcoming Ocean Harmony phablet gets its required CCC certification in China

The China Compulsory Certification (also known as 3C) must be awarded to every product imported, manufactured, sold or used in China. That includes smartphones. Recently, HTC filed with the CCC for its upcoming mid-range phablet with the code name HTC Ocean Harmony. The certification was awarded on December 4th. The CCC logo in China means that a device has been tested, and meets certain standards for safety in the country. It is similar to the UL Underwriters Laboratories safety tests conducted in the states.

The HTC Ocean Harmony is expected to carry a 5.99-inch ‘bezel-less’ display, with …

The Redmi Note 5 is probably one of Xiaomi’s most anticipated mid-range Android smartphones. We’ve been talking about the sequel to the popular Redmi Note 4 for quite a while now, but even after the first live pictures showing the phone leaked online, we still didn’t know much about what’s under the hood.

Thankfully, a new picture of the phone has now been published on China’s Weibo, which shows off some of the Redmi Note 5’s specifications. For starters, we can see that the phablet will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 CPU, a standard choice for mid-range handsets.

Images of upcoming Moto Mods leak; Amazon Alexa speaker and Polaroid Insta-share printer surface

Back in February, during MWC 2017 in Barcelona, Motorola announced several new Moto Mods for the Moto Z and Moto Z2 series. Among the modular accessories introduced were the Amazon Alexa speaker and the Polaroid Insta-Share printer. Today, tipster extraordinaire Evan Blass sent out a tweet that gives us a look-see at both new MotoMods. The Alexa speaker converts your Moto Z(2) into a handheld Echo smart speaker thanks to the presence of virtual assistant Alexa. The latter will control your smart home, give you the latest news and weather, allow you to shop by voice through Amazon, and much more.  …

Microsoft's upcoming Mixed Reality app (formerly View 3D) is Android bound according to video?

Microsoft posted a job listing the other day, apparently seeking developers to build a 3D scanning and augmented reality app for mobile devices. One question not answered by the listing is which platform(s) will be the recipient of this work. It appears that Microsoft might have given away the answer with a promotional video it released back in May. The video, which we’ve embedded at the stop of the story for your viewing pleasure, shows a preview of Redmond’s View 3D app. The upcoming app will now be known as Microsoft’s Mixed Reality viewer when released.

Google debuts trade-in program for current and upcoming Pixel phones

The Android One Moto X4 is not the only one that will benefit from a trade-in program in the United States. The Mountain View company has just kicked off a similar trade-in program on the Google Store, which will allow customers to purchase the upcoming Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL for a cheaper price, or the current Pixel models.

The good news is Google will accept smartphones from other brands like Apple, Samsung, Huawei, LG, and Motorola, not just Nexus and Pixel handsets.

So, how does it actually work? Well, there are no surprises there, as customers will register …

Asus accidentally leaked four upcoming ZenFone 4 models, complete with renders, specs, and prices

Asus is a master of confusion when it comes to its smartphones’ names — even if we disregard that it’s the only manufacturer out there using numbers to denominate generations instead of models (so ZenFone 3 is the name of a whole bunch of devices, instead of just one), the company also has a fondness for releasing multiple device models under the same name in different regions. This is how we get one ZenFone 3 Deluxe that is considerably better than another ZenFone 3 Deluxe.

However, Asus is definitely not a master when it comes to not prematurely …
