Valerie Jarrett on Roseanne Barr's racist tweet: 'I think we have to turn it into a teaching moment.'

TwitterFacebook

Just hours after Roseanne‘s cancellation, Valerie Jarrett is weighing in.

After Roseanne Barr posted a racist tweet about Jarrett, a former aide of President Barack Obama, ABC moved quickly to cancel her show, noting that the tweet was “abhorrent, repugnant, and inconsistent with our values” in its official statement

Now, in an MSNBC town hall titled “Everyday Racism in America,” Jarrett’s responded, calling the experience “a teaching moment.”

A clip from the town hall – which airs in full on Tuesday evening at 9 p.m. ET – shows Jarrett’s take on Barr’s racist tweet.   Read more…

'Roseanne' reruns pulled after racist tweet

TwitterFacebook

Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet didn’t just get the Roseanne revival canceled. It got old Roseanne yanked from the TV schedule, too.

TheWrap reports that reruns of Roseanne will be removed from Viacom networks – Paramount Network, TV Land, and CMT – starting Wednesday. There’s no word yet on what will replace the programming.

UPDATE: Hulu has also decided to remove Roseanne from its programming, according to a spokesperson who talked to The Hollywood Reporter. The show is still available on Amazon Prime, at least for the time being. Read more…

House Appropriations Committee unanimously votes to keep ZTE export ban intact despite Trump's tweet

Last weekend, a tweet from President Donald Trump surprised many when he called for the Commerce Department to repeal the U.S. export ban that it had placed on Chinese phone and network equipment manufacturer ZTE. Without access to U.S. software, hardware and components, ZTE has had to basically shut its doors. Despite many comments he made during the presidential campaign that called out China for stealing U.S. jobs, Trump showed unusual concern for those in China losing their jobs at ZTE (“Too many jobs in China lost,” the president wrote in the tweet).

OnePlus co-founder deletes "Learn to love the notch" patronizing tweet

OnePlus has officially revealed the first picture of its upcoming OnePlus 6 phone and lo and behold, it will have a notch quite similar to that of the iPhone X.

And while we have nothing against notches, it seems that OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei went a bit overboard with his attempts to justify a new-found love for the notch and has now deleted a somewhat patronizing tweet from two days ago:
Learn to love the notch 😉 https://t.co/Rd9lkcksJV

This tweet is the most incredibly accurate description of British weather

TwitterFacebook

Okay, here in Britain we’re not known for great weather. But we sure as hell can turn it into one killer tweet.

Having gone through the “Beast from the East”, and then the “mini-Beast from the East”, Brits are even more fed up with the weather than usual.

To sum up our meteorological woes here’s comedy writer Aaron Gillies, a.k.a. Technically Ron.

How the seasons work in the UK:
Jan – Cold
Feb – Still Cold
Mar – Still cold but snow now
Apr – Rain
May – More rain
Jun – Why is it still raining
July – BEES
Aug – Oh god it is so hot
Sept – I miss the heat
Oct – Heat is simply a memory
Nov – Cold
Dec – Cold but with capitalism

The internet is having a field day with Paul Ryan's oblivious #GOPTaxScam tweet

TwitterFacebook

Paul Ryan is boasting on Twitter about all the good the G.O.P. tax plan will do. In related news, the House Majority Leader might not understand how money works for most people.

Ryan, tweeting from his personal account, earned himself a good, old-fashioned public shaming on Saturday after he tried to hype the recently passed tax bill. The extra $1.50 in one “pleasantly surprised” Pennsylvania woman’s weekly paycheck is enough to cover an annual Costco membership, he wrote.

The tweet was so astoundingly dumb that Ryan actually deleted it while we were in the process of writing about it. But let his original intent sink in for a minute. This was Ryan’s idea of a positive outcome for the new tax plan. Read more…

Picture of Acer's rumored Chrome OS powered tablet grabbed from now deleted tweet

Just the second day into 2018, we told you that Samsung was allegedly working on a Chrome OS powered tablet to be powered by a high end Intel processor. But Sammy’s Chrome OS powered slate might not end up being the first such device to hit the market. An image taken from a now deleted tweet shows an Acer tablet that is said to be running on Chrome OS. The picture was snapped by someone attending the Bett education and technology show in London, and tweeted yesterday.

Google has dropped hints in the past about allowing manufacturers to use Chrome OS on a variety of form factors, including …

Tweet from HTC teases new Vive model to be unveiled this coming Monday at CES

A tweet from HTC that was disseminated on Friday, hints that a new version of the HTC Vive VR headset is due to be unveiled this coming Monday. The tweet says “New Year’s Resolution” on top. The manufacturer cleverly had “New Year’s” out of focus with the word Resolution printed as sharp as a tack. This indicates that the new Vive will have a higher resolution display than the original model. Very smart, HTC.

Considering that Monday is the opening day of the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, we’d say that everything is coming together, pointing toward the unveiling of a new …

Trump's 'Time' tweet got better with every internet spoof

TwitterFacebook

It’s Thanksgiving week, and you know what that means: Time for Donald Trump’s annual tiff with Time magazine and it’s “Person of the Year” issue.

Trump won the honor last year, which should have silenced his irritation forthwith. But because he’s Donald Trump, he will not be satisfied unless he is the center of all attention always.

Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!
