New record for HQ Trivia as 1.6 million vied to win $15,000 on Sunday

HQ Trivia is hotter than ever. The live trivia game show has been available for both iOS and Android users since late last month. The app has been updated in an attempt to prevent it from freezing, like it was wont to do. HQ also has apparently scaled up its servers to handle a larger number of game players. On January 1st, we told you that the 9pm game that evening drew 1 million people for the first time, but only 750,000 were allowed to play.

The cap is now higher. Sunday evenings’ trivia battle attracted an HQ record 1.6 million users to a special game that offered a higher than usual …

HQ trivia trick changes your app color to rainbow

HQ trivia is hard to win, but changing the app’s color is quite easy.

A tipster told us about the trick Sunday night, shortly after the 9 p.m. ET game, and it seemed to have worked earlier this week as well, per a tweet

Why would you want to change the color of the app? We really don’t know. Maybe to show off to your friends a.k.a. HQ competitors. Or, just in the spirit of randomness.

Here’s how to unlock the rainbow magic:

Step 1. Open the HQ trivia app. Of course, download the app if you don’t have it yet. Feel free to use my referral code “kerrymflynn,” though that won’t influence if this works.  Read more…

The rapid rise and even faster fall of an HQ trivia champion

HQ trivia, the live game-show app that launched in July, is ridiculously hard to win, but contestant Allan Gibbons repeatedly finds a way.

Better known by his username “AllanG,” Gibbons is an HQ trivia celebrity, born from his knack for dominating the game show’s daily competitions. Sure, maybe his winnings sound like chump change in comparison to the game’s jackpots that range from $500 to $10,000, but it’s been enough to earn him a position atop the leaderboard, and therefore, the envious eyes of the hundreds of thousands contestants who have spent time with the iPhone app over the last six months.  Read more…
