Project Fi's Bill Protection plan offers unlimited talk, text and data for $80 a month and less

Google’s Project Fi hybrid MVNO uses a combination of Wi-Fi hotspots and cellular networks to connect its customers to the internet. And now Project Fi has announced a whole new unlimited data plan that it calls “Bill Protection.” Previously, for $20 a month, customers got unlimited talk and text and paid $10/GB for data. Money spent on data not used during a given month was refunded.

To better compete with carriers like T-Mobile and Sprint and their low priced unlimited offers, the new Bill Protection plan again supplies unlimited talk and text for $20 a month. And yes, you still pay $10 …

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said today that the next new OnePlus handset, possibly named the OnePlus 6, will be released late in the second quarter of this year and will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset. OnePlus set sales records late last year with the launch of the OnePlus 5T, which is now the company’s fastest and best-selling phone. Those records previously belonged to the OnePlus 5, which was launched late last June.

In addition, Lau said that OnePlus would start talking with U.S. carriers this year about selling its devices through one or more stateside wireless operators. The company …

Apparently, it's not too early to talk about Apple's 2018 iPhones

iPhone X sales are in full swing, as shipping times become shorter, so there’s really no reason to start talking about the next year’s iPhone. Well, not if your name is Ming-Chi Kuo. The well-known KGI Securities analyst has just given his first predictions about Apple’s new lineup of iPhones that will be unveiled in 2018.

Kuo believes Apple will launch three new iPhones in 2018. Two of them will sport OLED displays, while the third will come with LCD panel. Size-wise, the OLED-based iPhones will boast 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch displays respectively, while the bezel-less LCD model should sport …

Apple Watch Series 3 requires an iPhone 6 or later for setup; battery gets 1 hour of talk time

Apple announced yesterday that unlike previous versions of the Apple Watch, the new Series 3 model does not need to be paired to a nearby iPhone for internet access, or to make/take phone calls. But it still requires an iPhone to configure the timepiece. And while the Series 1 Apple Watch can still use the Apple iPhone 5s and up to communicate with and to set up the device, the new Series 3 watch requires an Apple iPhone 6 or higher for the configuration and set up of the timepiece. The phone must have iOS 11, or higher, installed.

This means that if you are moving up from a Series 1 Apple …

Hulk talk better in 'Thor: Ragnarok' (and refuse turn back into Banner)

TwitterFacebook

It’s been a couple of years since Bruce Banner started turning into the Hulk in the MCU timeline, so it would stand to reason that his alter ego’s vocabulary would be improving.

Mark Ruffalo spilled details about the big fella during Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok panel on Saturday at Comic-Con, including that he won’t be playing much Bruce Banner.

Hulk refuses to turn back into Banner on [the planet] Sakaar because he’s a champion gladiator,” Ruffalo said. “And he’s enjoying his life for once, and he’ll be damned if he’s gonna go back to Banner. Read more…

The new feature added in the update is aimed at Enterprise customers and includes “Auto …

Google Talk (GChat) is finally getting fully transitioned to Hangouts; G+ leaving Gmail

Ever so slowly, Google is doing… something to sort out its messaging app strategy. Yesterday, we heard that Hangouts would be losing SMS support because Google wants to focus on Android Messenger for text messaging. Now, Google has decided it is finally time to kill off Google Talk (aka GChat), despite keeping the app around for years after it should have died.

Apparently, even though the Google Talk app in the Play Store was switched to Hangouts back in 2013, Google never shut off the Talk app for anyone who still had it running. That is finally changing, shutting off functionality …

Why won't Trump talk about technology?

TwitterFacebook

Vice President Mike Pence’s embarrassing use of an AOL email account is just another painful reminder of something that should be crystal clear to everyone: this administration doesn’t understand or care a lick about technology.

It’s an especially painful reality as we come off the high of an administration’s 8-year-love affair with technology and social media. They held Maker Fairs on the White House Lawn, for heaven’s sake. Former President Barack Obama personally fired a marshmallow canon during the White House science fair. Obama was so enthralled by technology and innovation that he made it a centerpiece of his 2013 State of the Union AddressRead more…
