4GB RAM confirmed for both 2017 iPad Pro tablets

Wondered how much RAM there is inside the new iPad Pros? Obviously, that’s not the kind of information you’ll get from Apple, because it doesn’t discuss tablets and phones like it does computers. However, there are ways to establish the missing pieces in iOS devices’ hardware spec sheets. One approach is GeekBench, the popular benchmark test which profiles phones and spills the beans on their hardware makeup.

The 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros were taken through GeekBench and came out as 4GB RAM devices. In combination with the A10X processor, the tablets represent probably …

Four new Apple tablets spotted, new iPad Pro possibly among them

Many expect that Apple’s WWDC event this year will bring not only software, but also hardware announcements, with news about upcoming iPad models among them. And new evidence has popped up recently, suggesting that several new tablets may be set for debut at WWDC 2017.

Said evidence comes in the form of regulatory approval spotted by the French web site Consomac. It lists four new “tablet PC” devices running iOS 10, referred to by their model numbers: A1670, A1671, A1701, and A1709. There is also a wireless keyboard listed under the A1843 model number, which …

Prison Architect confirmed to arrive on Android and iOS tablets this spring

Paradox, the Swedish publisher and developer of games, announced during ParadoxCon 2017 convention that the mobile version of Prison Architect would be launched on tablets this spring.

We’ve already reported on the BAFTA 2016 winner game last month when Paradox soft-launched Prison Architect in the Netherlands. Since then, it looks like developer Introversion Software has been squashing bugs left and right, so they have decided to add a few more countries to the list of locations where Prison Architect can be downloaded.

So, if you live in Australia or Sweden, …

Google's Fuchsia OS now has a UI for smartphones and tablets

Google has been quietly working on a new operating system called Fuchsia OS, that replaces the Linux kernel used in Android with one called Magenta. This open source OS has expanded from being just a command line to having an actual UI for smartphones and tablets. While Google hasn’t revealed why Fuchsia exists, it is way too early to even speculate on Google’s intentions for the future.

The UI, called Armadillo, scrolls vertically and includes a profile picture, current date, location and battery icon. Above that are a series of cards called “Story cards” that are basically your …

Best tablets (Spring 2017)

Tablets are certainly undergoing some huge transformations: the darling form factor of the early 2010s, in recent years it has become obvious that people do not buy as many tablets as manufacturers thought and the once that they purchase, they certainly do not upgrade every two years or so. Much like traditional laptops, tablets have a longer life and the upgrade cycle is much longer.
This has taught manufacturers some important lessons: it has taught them what people really need in a tablet. This has brought a big change to the tablet …

Canonical's Ubuntu Touch for phones and tablets is officially dead

Work on Ubuntu Touch started enthusiastically back in 2011 when Canonical’s Mark Shuttleworth presented his vision on convergence. Ubuntu’s primary goal would have been to support smartphones, tablets, smart TVs and other smart screens, including smartwatches and head units.

Unfortunately, Shuttleworth’s dream seems so far away now, as Canonical’s CEO announced that his company is giving up on Ubuntu Touch to try and focus resources elsewhere.

Unity8, the platform that should have united all smart devices under the Ubuntu banner, is now a thing of the past …
