HTC One M8 engineering prototype in Matte Black surfaces out of nowhere

You never know when some relics of the past will rear their heads, and in what ways. The HTC One (M8) was among 2014’s most likeable phones, a quality successor to the revered HTC One that tried to make a case for dual cameras years before they become sort-of mainstream. It didn’t succeed, as the technology hadn’t come to frution at the time. All that duo cam setup managed to deliver was a decent bokeh.

Still, the One (M8) comes from an era in which HTC had high-profile designers and homed in on making impressive-looking phones with character, rather …

Moto Z2 Play retail box surfaces along with new pictures of the phone

Last week, a high resolution image of the Moto Z2 Play was discovered, along with an advertisement indicating that the device will be unveiled on June 1st. Even before the phone has been made official, there are some who are disappointed with Lenovo’s decision to use a 3000mAh battery on the device. That is a 15% decline from the 3510mAh cell used on the original Moto Z Play. The Snapdragon 626 chipset replaces the Snapdragon 625 that powered the Moto Z Play, and should be just as miserly with battery consumption. Despite the lower capacity battery, the Moto Z2 Play should still provide …

Last November, it hiked the resolution on the 8-incher from 800 x 1280 to 1200 x 1920, and upgraded the chipset to the Snapdragon 617. It also changed the name to the Verizon Ellipsis 8 HD while jettisoning the older model from its lineup.

Now, it appears that Verizon plans on doing something similar …

Sony 'Xperia X Ultra' surfaces with 6.4-inch, 21:9 display

If you’re familiar with the new LG G6 and Samsung’s Galaxy S8 duo, you’ll have noticed a recurring theme with regards to their displays. The G6’s screen touts an 18:9 aspect ratio while the panels of the S8 duo are 18.5:9 — both essentially twice as tall as they are wide. The idea seems to be that users can navigate more content without the device becoming too unwieldy, and with plenty of streamed video being filmed at 2:1 these days, it makes overall sense. With LG and Samsung having laid down their cards, it’s only natural that other OEMs will begin to follow suit, and a new leak suggests that …
