Some Surface Pro 4 owners put their slate in the ice box to stop screen from flickering

A small number of Surface Pro 4 owners are having trouble with flickering screens. Given the name Flickergate by some, the problem has been discussed on Microsoft’s support forums by those unfortunate enough to find themselves with one of the tablets exhibiting this behavior. The big problem for these owners (said to include at least 1,600 people), is that their expensive slate is no longer covered by the warranty.

Microsoft says that it is aware of the issue, but so far the gang in Redmond is only closely monitoring the situation. Since the flickering usually takes place when the …

New images of the canceled Microsoft Xbox smartwatch surface

Despite the fact that Microsoft has given up Windows Phone and anything related to the smartphone business, the Redmond-based company was, at some point, very close to releasing a smartwatch.

Microsoft’s first ever smartwatch was probably supposed to be called Xbox Watch and offered many of the features that modern wearable devices include these days. Back in September, we showed you the first pictures of an Xbox Watch prototype, which didn’t seem to work.

If you consider yourself a Microsoft fan, we’re happy to bring to your attention another set of pictures showing a working Xbox …

Microsoft engineer in China says that there will be a Surface Phone before editing his comments

There is some hope among consumers that the foldable device that Microsoft has been seeking patent protection for, is the long rumored Surface Phone. Yesterday, a Microsoft engineer might have accidentally given away the news that the Surface Phone is real and is coming in the not too distant future. On a Q&A site in China called Zhihu, someone wrote in to complain about the poor integration of Cortana on Android.

The Microsoft engineer, writing on Microsoft Asia Research Institute’s Cortana support account, blamed the lack of permissions on the operating system as the reason why Microsoft’s …

Do we already know what a Surface Phone would look like?

At Build 2017, Microsoft’s annual developer conference, Microsoft was busy announcing a bunch of new, forward-thinking developments including new updates to Windows 10 and their cloud computing platform. Perhaps the most exciting underlying theme was that Microsoft wants to make better software that works really well between devices, and they did not only mean working well between Windows PCs, but between all your devices, iOS and Android included.

Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO, envisions a future in which people own on average six devices. He knows that not all of these devices will …

Microsoft India President asked about the Surface Phone, drops a couple of hints

Over the past month, the rumor of a Microsoft Surface Phone have been revitalized. Some patents popped up, some artist-made renders appeared. While none of these is proof that Microsoft is still working on the phone, it does show that the company has been experimenting with the idea of a tablet that can fold in two to become a smartphone — the ultimate “phablet”. has recently gotten a hold of Anant Mahewari — the President of Microsoft India — for a quick interview. Among the questions, mobile was discussed, and Mr. Mahewari dropped a couple of hints at what may or may not be happening …

Miss America CEO resigns after sexist, offensive emails surface

There he goes, Miss America Organization CEO Sam Haskell.

Haskell had been suspended Friday after a HuffPost story detailed his email correspondence over the years leading the beauty pageant. His leaked emails included many sexist, offensive comments about contestants and winners.

By Saturday afternoon he had resigned.

Board chairman Lynn Weidner also offered her resignation, but she will remain on for up to 90 days to help “facilitate a smooth transition.” Weidner had been involved in targeting Miss America 2013 Mallory Hagan, whom Haskell and other MAO colleagues had insulted because of her weight after she won the competition. Foldable Microsoft device could be the mythical Surface Phone

Yesterday, we showed you images from the latest patent filing made by Microsoft related to a folding Surface tablet. Besides the big question about whether this product will eventually reach the mass market, another big question is whether this device will be designed to morph from a single-screened to double-screened tablet, or whether it will be a tablet that can turn into a phone.

The report yesterday indicated that the device will come with the ability to make and take calls. Today, a tweet from Windows tipster Walking Cat revealed a link to a list of apps in the Windows Store. These …

Microsoft patent images reveal folding Surface tablet

Back in January and March of this year, we showed you images from Microsoft patent applications that revealed a Surface tablet that converted into a phone and vice versa. Today, a tweet from a gentleman named Isaac referred us to a listing on the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) website. The listing includes the latest images of a folding Surface tablet device. This unit folds from a tablet with one large display into one with two smaller and separate OLED screens. The device also functions as a phone.

The new sketches go into detail as we can see the individual parts making …

Microsoft Surface Phone? New leaks suggest it's still happening!

It was about a couple of years ago when Microsoft called it quits on the hardware side of the smartphone market and said it will focus on developing its software suite for mobile, continue to develop Windows 10 for all platforms, but leave phone-building to 3rd party manufacturers. The Lumia 950 and 950 XL were the last top-tier Windows phones made by Redmond itself.

But rumors that Microsoft is planning another top-tier phone just refuse to die. The so-called Surface Phone is a mythical creature that lives in legends that may or may not turn out to be true.
