Internal Microsoft memo blasts Consumer Reports' Surface complaints

Recently, a survey of 91,000 laptap and tablet buyers put together by Consumer Reports, found that 25% of Microsoft’s Surface devices have problems by the second year of ownership. As a result, the magazine.pulled its recommendation of Microsoft’s Surface tablets because of poor reliability. Among the devices losing their recommended status are the Surface Pro tablet and the Surface Book. Consumer Reports now says that it can not recommend any other Microsoft built tablet because of “poor predicted reliability.” Some of the issues that Surface tablet users have complained about include unresponsive …

New iOS 11 icons surface for Apple Maps, App Store and Clock; iOS 11 beta 6 is released

A tweet from iCulture reveals some new icons discovered on the latest beta version of iOS 11, released today. The new Apple Maps icon has something of an inside joke to it as it shows an automobile heading past Apple Park. In the top right, part of the circular building can be seen on the icon. This replaces the current icon which shows a car driving on the I-280 overpass about to make a left turn.

The App Store icon has been made less complex as the paint brush, pencil and ruler that help form the letter “A” (for App) have been replaced by popsicle sticks? Lastly, the font on the clock …

Moto X4 official press images surface along with final specs

After numerous leaks these past few weeks, we now finally have on our hands the first official press images of the Moto X4, and they are accompanied by the supposed final specs for the phone as well.

The Moto X4, which is the first new entry in the X-series since 2015, will sport a 5.2” 1080p display and it will come in two colors only—Sterling Blue and Super Black (pictured above)—which some of you may find a tad disappointing, considering the supposedly official Moto X4 render in gold that was leaked a couple of days ago.

Under the hood, the Moto X4 will …

Microsoft patent application shows metallic Surface Phone body doubling as the antenna

Since the beginning of the year, we have seen a few Microsoft patent applications that were said to feature the mythical Surface Phone. The latest such patent application was published on Thursday, even though it had been filed with the USPTO back in February 2016. The patent, entitled “Cover of Device Acting as Antenna of the Device” shows a metallic built handset. As the title of the patent suggests, the metallic cover doubles as the antenna.

Because the handset would apparently swing around a hinge positioned in the center of the device, users would not cause interference or the “detuning” …

First real-life pictures of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 surface online

Now that we know pretty much the full specs of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, it’s about time we got to see the obligatory first potatocam photos of an actual, real-life prototype of the phone. And here they are in their full glory, complete with tons of blurred-out and masked text, URLs, and prototype IDs.

Not much is new in the photos, however, as they conform pretty nicely with all the leaks we’ve seen so far. Really the only revelations here are actually things we’ve seen before in the Galaxy S8. Firstly, the Always On display will be keeping the same …

3300mAh batteries for Samsung Galaxy Note 8 surface

With the problems that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 had last year, it was all because of the battery employed in the unit. The phablet, which was well on the way to becoming one of the the best selling Samsung phones of all time, was hit by some bad news in the form of several dangerous explosions. The device was recalled twice, and while several users didn’t want to return the handset, Samsung eventually eliminated all the functionality of the phablet so that anyone keeping the Note 7 would end up with a useless paperweight.

The Samsung Galaxy Note FE (Fan Edition) is available in South Korea; …

The new Surface Pro has a hibernation bug, Microsoft is working to fix it

Last month, Microsoft started selling a brand new Surface Pro, which succeeds the Surface Pro 4 from 2015, and brings a series of enhancements (though nothing groundbreaking).

Some of the customers who purchased a new Surface Pro have been noticing that the convertible tablet has a bug that’s making it randomly enter hibernation mode, or shut down (even when plugged in, or with plenty of battery life remaining).

Fortunately, Microsoft says it may have identified this issue, so it’s now working to solve it. A fix will be included in a future software update, …
