May the S Pen be with you: Samsung to release a Star Wars edition Note 8?

Samsung has been in the practice of selling super hero-themed limited edition versions of its top-tier devices in the past few years. First, we saw an Avengers-themed icon pack for the Galaxy Note 4. Then, we got an awesome-looking Iron Man Galaxy S6 edge — with the red skin, gold accents, and software facelift to match. Later, an all-black, Batman-themed Galaxy S7 edge had us drooling over its stealthy look and fan-pleasing accessory box. Now, it seems we are about to get…

A producer reportedly wanted 'Crazy Rich Asians' to star a white woman

TwitterFacebook

Today in bad but unsurprising revelations: Crazy Rich Asians author Kevin Kwan was reportedly pressured by a film producer to make the book’s Chinese-American protagonist, Rachel Chu, a white woman instead.

Kwan detailed the experience, which happened before the book was even published, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“They wanted to change the heroine into a white girl,” he explained. “I was like, ‘Well, you’ve missed the point completely.’ I said, ‘No, thank you.’”

Hollywood whitewashing, of course, is egregious and nothing new. (Remember Scarlett Johansson in Ghost in the Shell? Emma Stone in Aloha?) In this particular case, making Rachel a white woman would effectively ruin the plot of the book, which in large part focuses on a Chinese-American woman’s experience of spending time in Asia. 'Stranger Things' star fires agent accused of sexual assault after he Facebook 'poked' his victim

TwitterFacebook

Stranger Things actor Finn Wolfhard has fired his agent after allegations of sexual assault surfaced, Entertainment Weekly reported

Tyler Grasham, who was also fired from his job as a talent agent at APA, was accused of sexual assault by a former teen actor.

Blaise Godbe Lipman, who appeared on the shows Weeds and Hawaii Five-O, wrote a Facebook post describing “a prominent talent agent from the firm APA” who assaulted him a decade ago, when he was 17.

That original post seems to have been removed or set to private, but Lipman later named Grasham in a follow-up Facebook post, spurred — incredibly — by Grasham himself. The disgraced talent agent “poked” the former child actor after his initial post, as Lipman wrote. Read more…

TwitterFacebook

This recap contains spoilers for Outlander Season 3, episode 4, titled “Of Lost Things.”

Season 3 of Outlander isn’t just a story about Claire and Jamie finding their way back together — in many ways, it’s also a story of parenthood, and the sacrifices that all of our characters make for the people they love.

While Claire is able to raise Brianna in the safety of Boston, Jamie’s journey of fatherhood has been much more painful; he couldn’t be with Claire after she lost their first baby, Faith, and he sent her back through the Standing Stones with the expectation that he would never meet their second child. Characters like this are why 'SNL' star Kate McKinnon has won 2 Emmys in a row

The three alien abductees with wildly different experiences have returned to Earth — and Saturday Night Live, reprising their first appearance from 2015. This time, at least poor Kate McKinnon gets a Ryan Gosling gropefest out of the deal.

Gosling and Cecily Strong returned to form as unassuming rednecks recounting blissful experiences of meeting beings from beyond the stars.

“One minute we’re drinking beer in a Kohl’s parking lot and it’s like, now we’re cosmic curiosities,” Strong said.

“Cookie crumbled a little different for me here,” McKinnon started. Read more…

What 'Star Trek' star LeVar Burton learned as first-time podcaster

TwitterFacebook

LeVar Burton just can’t stop reading.

The former Star Trek and Roots star just wrapped the first season of his weekly podcast, LeVar Burton Reads, where Burton lends his reassuring, emotive voice to various works of short-form fiction. The term “season” is a loose one — the books are a grab bag of authors and genres, from Daisy Johnson’s exploration of solitary life in The Lighthouse Keeper to one of Neil Gaiman’s modern fantasy stories, Chivalry.

Though all 12 episodes are finished, subscribers still have something to look forward to: Burton just finished recording a bonus episode of the podcast at the Now Hear This podcast festival in New York City where he read one of the stories from Five-Carat Soul by James McBride and was joined by the author on stage.
