With them being so similar, would you rather buy a Galaxy S8, or a Galaxy S9?

Samsung’s 2018 flagship duo is all too familiar — the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ look a lot like last year’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing — Samsung had its formula right last year and the phones still look like they came from the future, the hardware stands, and the features are aplenty.

That’s not to say that the S9 duo doesn’t add some cool stuff. The stereo speakers are a very welcome new feature, the S9+’s secondary camera is definitely nice to have, together with the Portrait Mode (Live Focus) it brings, and a slight bump in hardware is always …

Essential owns patent on a pop-up selfie camera similar to the one on the Vivo Apex concept

The other day, we told you about the Vivo Apex concept phone. With a tap anywhere on the bottom of the screen activating the in-display fingerprint scanner, and audio coming out of the screen, the near bezel-less display leaves another quandary for the manufacturer; with bezels this thin, where does Vivo put the front-facing camera? The proof-of-concept OG Xiaomi Mi Mix, which was the blueprint that many of today’s bezel-less handsets followed, had its front-facing camera located in the bottom bezel. That was repeated in the Mi Mix 2. The Mi Mix 2s plans on putting the front-facing camera in the …

Samsung's foldable smartphone might include technology similar to Apple's 3D Touch

If Samsung manages to launch the long-rumored Galaxy X, the foldable smartphone might benefit from some technologies that have yet to make it in any of the company’s products. One of these technologies is already implemented by the competition and everyone knows them as 3D Touch (Apple) or Force Touch (Huawei).

To some degree, Samsung implemented the pressure-sensitive technology to the Galaxy S8/S8+, but it’s only present around the virtual home button. Last year, the South Korean giant filed for a patent that describes a technology similar to Apple’s 3D Touch and Huawei’s Force Touch, …

Apple plans to launch new "all screen" high-end iPad similar to iPhone X in 2018

Apple is working on a completely redesigned high-end new iPad that will have an “all screen” display with thinner bezels and Face ID like the iPhone X. The new iPad, however, is not likely to use an OLED display like the iPhone X, and will instead stick with a traditional LCD screen. The information comes from inside sources speaking for Bloomberg, which has a nearly spotless track record with Apple rumors.
This new iPad is expected to launch later in 2018. The iPad Pro 10.5″ was released in June 2017, while the new model is expected to launch …

HTC U11 vs HTC U11 life: what's different, what's similar?

So, HTC dropped a pair of brand new phones — the HTC U11 life and HTC U11+. The latter is a version of the flagship U11, but with a new, 18:9 display to meet current trands. Unfortunately, that one will only be sold in select markets across Europe and Asia. What will be a bit more widely available, including in the US, is the HTC U11 life — an upper-midrange handset, made to look like the flagship.

So the U11 life is sort of like a “light” version of the HTC U11. And it’s even lighter on the wallet — it only costs $350, while the U11 has the flagship-standard $650 …

Next Exynos may have neural engine co-processor for AI, similar to Apple's A11

“Apple A11 Bionic neural engine,” “Google Pixel Visual Core” – those are all buzz phrases to mark a growing trend in today’s latest smartphone chipsets, namely specialized co-processors for niche tasks that offload those from generic main processor cores. This way the job in question – processing sensory input and Face ID visual calculations in Apple’s case, or aiding the HDR+ camera algorithms in Google’s Pixels – gets done much faster, way better, and with less battery drain than if you task it to the stock processor.

Needless to say, Samsung may soon be following …

Huawei and Google team up for the first Android development board, similar to the Raspberry Pi

Android developers had one serious problem that made their jobs much harder up until now – they had to develop software for the platform using hardware that’s completely different in just about any way. The community wanted an ARM-based development platform for quite some time now, hoping it would make things easier, and it finally has it.

Huawei has introduced the HiKey 960 board – an ARM-based development board that comes with all the essentials one would need. It employs Huawei’s latest octa-core processor – the Kirin 960 – complete with the Mali-G71 GPU, 32 …

Apple is once again rumored to start a P2P money transferring network similar to Venmo and PayPal

Venmo is a free digital wallet that allows users to wire funds into or out of their Venmo account, bank account or debit card. Today, word surfaced about meetings that Apple has held with firms in this industry about starting up its own money transfer system. In other words, Apple is looking to build a Venmo competitor that would allow iPhone owners to transfer funds to and from others’ iPhone handsets.

Those in the know say that Apple could officially unveil this new payment service some time later this year, allowing Apple to compete with others in the industry such as Pay Pal, Square …
