Want to get a OnePlus 5T early? Sign up to be a tester for OnePlus' The Lab

OnePlus has always strived to make community-conscious products. To highlight that fact, earlier this year, the company launched The Lab initiative — 10 lucky fans were chosen to test the OnePlus 5’s camera and share their impressions with OnePlus before the device was officially launched.

With the coming of the OnePlus 5T, The Lab is opening its doors once again. This time, it’s not for photography enthusiasts, but just smartphone fans in general. According to the company, if you have a “knack for reviewing flagship-level technology”, you have a chance of being …

Apple iPhone 8 display assembly leak could be another sign not to expect Touch ID on the model

Sure, we can hear brokerage house analysts, anonymous Apple executives, purported Foxconn assembly line workers and a cocktail waitress tell us that there is no Touch ID button on the 10th anniversary edition of the iPhone. Then, we can see renders of the device purportedly containing an extra large power button; this starts a theory that Apple will deploy Touch ID on the side of the phone, a placement that has been used by Sony for its biometric scanner.

Today, we have a little more proof that Touch ID will not be touchable (or even available) in the iPhone 8. Images alleged to show …

LG V30 schematic leaks: Dual rear camera remains a staple, but no sign of a secondary display

With the LG V30 slated for an August 30 announcement, it’s only natural for more and more leaks and rumors to start popping out. The latest one is what’s claimed to be an excerpt from the phone’s manual and gives us a rather nondescript look at LG’s soon-to-come handset.
It doesn’t take a genius to spot the similarities between the V30 schematic and the company’s G6 flagship – we’ve got the same slim bezels all-around the front, with the top and bottom one a bit more pronounced, a dual-camera at the rear, and last but not least, what seems to be a 9:18 FullVision display. …

Nokia and Xiaomi sign a mystery patent exchange agreement, hint at future partnership in AR and VR tech

If you’ve been reading the news lately, you might have heard a fresh rumor that upcoming Nokia devices could be equipped with a Xiaomi-designed Surge chipset. But this isn’t the only recent piece of news regarding Xiaomi and Nokia, as the two companies have just announced a strategic partnership, consisting of the latter licensing a number of patents to the former, buying others, the two collaborating on building network equipment, and also opening up to the possibility of future partnerships in areas such as augmented and virtual reality.

…Which is a completely misleading …

Ask Alexa to sign you up for Amazon Prime and save $20 on an annual membership

Virtual assistant Alexa can do many things. In fact, just the other day we told you that Alexa has over 15,000 skills in the U.S. Alexa, which you might call the breakout tech star of 2017, can mostly be found doing her thing on the Amazon Echo smart speakers. But this year, she can also be found on the Huawei Mate 9 and the HTC U11 in certain markets. The smart speaker market is getting crowded as Apple is expected to launch its HomePod this December, and Samsung is also rumored to be tossing its hat into the ring with a Bixby powered unit.

Amazon has arranged for Alexa to save you …

Starting today, Verizon subscribers can sign up to insure their current handsets

Everyone at one time or another has dropped their handset causing serious damage to their phone. Yet, when we buy a new handset and the rep asks us if we are purchasing insurance, the answer is inevitably “no.”  We start thinking that insurance is a rip off, and after all, there is the deductible that needs to be covered. But Verizon’s insurance package might change the way you look at phone insurance.

Starting today, for a limited time only, Verizon subscribers are getting another chance to insure their current handsets with Total Mobile Protection. You have until July 14th to enroll. …

Leonardo DiCaprio used a standard, office file folder for his climate march sign, lol

Look, let me start by saying Leonardo DiCaprio has done a lot to combat climate change.

He produced a climate change documentary titled Before the Flood that dropped in 2016. He has a foundation “dedicated to the long-term health and wellbeing of all Earth’s inhabitants.” The foundation has given $61 million to causes that align with that mission statement. He talks about climate change all the time. And, also, he was among the ~200,000 people in Washington, D.C. on Saturday to protest a White House that very much does not share his (scientifically valid) concern for the damage people are doing to the climate. Living in Straya, the Land Down Under? Is working at McDonald’s a life goal of yours? Do you wake up and go to bed with Snapchat in mind?

Google Translate gets real-time voice and sign translations on iOS and Android

Remember that Google Translate update with real-time voice translation we heard about earlier this week? It’s now here for Android and iOS devices.

While Google Translate for Android has offered real-time conversation mode since 2013, the new version adds a much speedier version.

Google-Translate -voice-sing-iOS-Android

Tap the mic symbol, start speaking in a selected language, tap again and Google Translate will automatically recognize the languages being spoken. It will keep listening to translate through your conversation.

The second big update is the integration of Word Lens. The Translate app already allowed you to take a picture of text and have it translated into one of 36 languages but you can now get instant translation.

Pointing your camera at a sign will translate it while retaining the same typography. It currently works for translation from English to and from French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
