Apple sends document to authorized service providers telling them how to deal with Face ID issues

Apple has reportedly sent a document to authorized service providers outlining what they should do when an iPhone X owner has issues with Face ID. The first step that Apple recommends is a diagnostic test to see if there is a problem with the rear camera on the device. Wait! We know exactly what you’re thinking; doesn’t Face ID have to do with sensors found on the front-facing TrueDepth Camera? And you’d be exactly right. However, there does appear to be some connection between a rear camera failure on the tenth anniversary model, and the failure of Face ID to work correctly. Why the rear …

Apple sends invites to March 27 event, new iPads incoming?

On March 27, Apple will be hosting an event in Chicago, as media invitations revealed earlier today. The gathering will take place at the Lane Tech College Prep High School and will be focused on education – “Join us to hear new creative ideas for teachers and students,” the invite reads.
“Boo-riing!” you might be thinking to yourself, but don’t dismiss the announcement so quickly. On one hand, the event probably won’t bring anything groundbreaking (if anything at all) in terms of hardware – big news from Apple are much more likely to come out of its new, …

Netflix sends an iPhone in space as a part of its Hack Day event

Netflix introduced the Hack Day back in 2014. It is an internal company event in which any Netflix employee can participate. The event has one goal in mind and that’s letting employees have fun while hacking around, creating interesting projects in the process. As a part of this year’s Hack Day, a group of Netflix employees has send an iPhone in space, while the device is playing an episode of “Star Trek: Discovery”. And it’s all recorded by a GoPro camera. Sweet.
Netflix’s Hack Day has been producing some quite peculiar results as of late, like the …

This Apple repair center sends 20 false emergency calls to 911 per day

Emergency 911 dispatchers in Elk Grove and Sacramento County in California have an odd case on their hands. Ever since October rolled in, they’ve been seeing on average of 20 false 911 calls every day, for a grand total of 1600 so far. As per one police dispatcher, Jamie Hudson:

We’ve been seeing these calls for the last four months from Apple. We’re able to see quickly where the call is coming from, so when we get one from Apple, the address will come up with their location.

The times when it’s greatly impacting us is when we have other emergencies happening and …

Apple sends out iOS 11.2.6 to fix bug that caused Indian character to crash iPhone models

Apple rushed out iOS 11.2.6 today to repair a bug that caused iPhones around the world to crash. A specific character from the Indian Telugu language sent over iMessage, or placed in a text field, can force an iPhone to reboot. The character cannot be read by iPhone models running iOS 11.2.5, If your iPhone is using any other iOS build, you are already in the clear.

In a vacuum, this bug might have been no big deal. But once the word got out, you had your jokers send the character to others via iMessage and social media in the hope that it would crash the recipient’s iPhone. Pushing out …

Samsung sends out invitations to media for Galaxy S9 unveiling on February 25th

It’s getting closer, which means it is getting real. Samsung today sent out press invitations for the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S9, which will take place during the Samsung Unpacked event on February 25th. That is the day before the MWC trade show in Barcelona begins, traditionally when Samsung would unveil its new flagship models. However, last year Samsung pushed back the unveiling of the Galaxy S8 until March.

This year, it appears that Sammy is reverting back to its old time schedule. The invitations, which don’t mention the Galaxy S9 precisely, show a big purple 9 with the words …

False alert: Here's what OnePlus' Clipboard app actually sends to Chinese servers

yesterday, we reported on yet another slightly-alarming security issue related to OnePlus’ devices and a potential security breach that had many worried their sensitive data leaked out to Chinese servers. This time, however, it would seem that this was a false alert as it turns out OnePlus is merely trying to prevent popular Chinese messenger Wechat from blocking certain links leading to some of the bigger Chinese online retailers. OnePlus’ Clipboard unblocks said links by sending a predefined hashcode token that essentially fools out Wechat into thinking the links are okay.

But why …

Motorola sends teaser telling Moto Z2 Force users that Android 8.0 is a few weeks away

Some owners of the Motorola Moto Z2 Force have received a teaser telling them that the update to Android 8.0 “may take a while, so check back in a few weeks!” The update adds new features like Picture-in-Picture (which allows users to watch video while continuing to work with an app running in the background), Adaptive Icons (Hello, Squircle!), Autofill and more.

Possibly more exciting for those with a Motorola handset receiving the Oreo update, are the several new applications that are unique to the manufacturer. These include a new feature that saves passwords in a secure manner, and a …
