False alert: Here's what OnePlus' Clipboard app actually sends to Chinese servers

yesterday, we reported on yet another slightly-alarming security issue related to OnePlus’ devices and a potential security breach that had many worried their sensitive data leaked out to Chinese servers. This time, however, it would seem that this was a false alert as it turns out OnePlus is merely trying to prevent popular Chinese messenger Wechat from blocking certain links leading to some of the bigger Chinese online retailers. OnePlus’ Clipboard unblocks said links by sending a predefined hashcode token that essentially fools out Wechat into thinking the links are okay.

But why …

Apple sends email to some iPhone Upgrade Program members who lost their place in line for iPhone X

Last week, Apple kept insinuating that members of its iPhone Upgrade Program had a head start on others when it came to the process of pre-ordering an Apple iPhone X. That’s because those subscribed to the program were able to fill out certain paperwork and have it ready to submit to Apple before pre-orders started getting accepted yesterday morning. Now, Apple has been forced to send out an email to iPhone Upgrade Program members who encountered problems with their pre-order on Friday.

The email starts by saying that the program subscriber might have had an issue getting a loan. The iPhone …

The talk of the tape is that HTC will be jumping on the 18:9 screen aspect bandwagon with an U11 Plus handset of its own. Given how great …

Apple iPhone 8 release date may not be delayed after all, Apple sends blackout days for staff

The Apple iPhone 8 release date could happen somewhere between September 17th and November 4th. This is the logical conclusion to make after Apple has allegedly posted blackout dates for staff, suggesting that this would be a busy period when it will need all hands on deck. The information comes from what looks like an official Apple memo to staff, obtained by Apple enthusiast Benjamin Geskin.
“Keep in mind that these dates are subject to change as our support volume expectations fluctuate,” the memo says.

Samsung sends out update to prevent users from remapping Bixby button

Earlier this month, we told you about an app in the Google Play Store called All in One Gestures that allows you to take the dedicated Bixby button and reconfigure it to work with another application. But Samsung isn’t exactly pleased with this. After all, they spent a ton of money developing Bixby, and gosh darn it, the AI assistant is going to have a dedicated button that activates it whether you like it or not.

So what the manufacturer did was send out an OTA update to versions of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ headed to Canadian carrier Telus. The update removes the ability …
