Huawei breaking records in 2017, over 100 million smartphones shipped so far

Chinese manufacturer Huawei has managed to ship over 100 million smartphones for the first three quarters of 2017. This translates to a year-over-year increase of 19%, which means that the company has a very high chance of surpassing the 140 million units it shipped in 2016.

AT&T's sales numbers for the quarter suggest iPhone 8 sales are not beating any records

AT&T has reported slower sales and 900,000 fewer smartphone upgrades for the past quarter, which includes more than a week of iPhone availability.
Historically, iPhone sales are strongest in the first days of availability and in the Holiday quarter, so this is clearly a troubling sign. While AT&T does not break down unit sales by model, the iPhone has been the dominant phone on all US carriers in the past few years, so this clearly has a lot to do with lower demand for the iPhone 8.

Taylor Swift's new single is already breaking records

Just three days into her comeback, Taylor Swift is breaking records.

Spotify announced Saturday that Swift’s newest single “Look What You Made Me Do” broke the streaming service’s record for same-day streams with 8 million plays, reports the Associated Press

The musician also broke a YouTube record for the 19 million same-day views on the single’s lyric video.

Swift’s Spotify record comes just a few weeks after the decision to reinstate her catalog on the streaming service, after famously pulling it in 2014. 

In a move that was widely seen as a slight against rival Katy Perry, Swift put her music back on Spotify on June 9, the same day Perry’s album Witness hit shelves. Read more…

Xiaomi records best ever quarter with 23.16 million smartphone shipments in the March-June period

According to a recent publication by a Taiwanese news outlet, Xiaomi has marked its best ever quarter in the March-June period this year, seeing a 70% increase in smartphone shipments from Q1. The company sold 23.16 million units in Q2 and, as per Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s CEO’s words, its aim is to hit a revenue of $14.7 billion (100 billion Yuan) by the end of this year.

Galaxy S8 continues to break records in Korea, sales exceed 1.3 million

Samsung has managed to sell over 1.3 million units of its 2017 flagship duo on home ground. Media outlet The Investor reports that the Galaxy S8 and S8+ have broken all sales records in South Korea.

It is estimated that between 11,000 to 12,000 units of the two models are sold on a daily basis – a feat that no other high-end handset has managed to achieve in the East Asian country.
