Alleged Huawei Mate 20 with Kirin 980 chipset on deck sets a new AnTuTu record

Huawei just recently launched its latest flagships, the P20 , P20 Pro, and the super-premium P20 Pro Porsche Design, but it seems that the grand Chinese company is already prepping its next emboldening move. Word on the street is the successor to last year’s Huawei Mate 10 just got benchmarked on popular synthetic benchmark app AnTuTu.

It would seem that the Huawei Mate 20, which is most likely coming this autumn, has reportedly scored a truly mind-boggling score of 356,918 points, which sets it ahead of just about any device right now. This performance jump could potentially be linked to …

After a record 2017, T-Mobile CEO Legere says 2018 will be the Un-carrier's "best year yet"

T-Mobile had quite a year in 2017. Yesterday, the company reported record revenue north of $40 billion for last year, up 8.3% Net rose 211% to $4.5 billion. For the fourth quarter, T-Mobile added 891,000 postpaid phone net additions, which turned out to be twice the number reported by the second best performer in that category, Verizon. It was triple the number of postpaid net phone additions on AT&T and five times the figure announced by Sprint.

In addition, postpaid phone churn was a record low for the fourth quarter at 1.18%. Total net adds came to 1.9 million, which means that the …

Phone shipments mark 'the biggest annual fall' on record, expensive flagships to blame

Buried in the latest industry reports that witnessed quite a few movers and shakers, is the fact that Q4 actually saw the largest quarterly drop on record in smartphone shipments. That’s right, research firm Strategy Analytics showed that shipments were 9% down in Q4 2017, compared to 2016, or “the biggest annual fall in smartphone history.”
The culprits? Longer upgrade cycles, particularly in China, due to midrangers becoming “good enough,” while average selling prices for flagships are getting ever higher with no “wow” factors attached to their ballooning costs. …

AT&T reports $20 billion tax cuts profit windfall, record low subscriber churn

The $1.5 trillion tax cuts that the government passed last month is beginning to look great for companies like AT&T or Verizon, which had a bunch of deferred taxes on their books. After Verizon announced it can now tack $17 billion in extra profit to its quarterly results, thanks to the new tax law, AT&T came out swinging, and booked $20 billion in Q4.

That’s right, the carrier will be having a windfall, but mostly on paper, as due to the capital-intensive nature of the carrier business, those taxes could have been put off indefinitely anyway. Still, the move to bring …

Keeping you safe: Google removed a record number of bad apps from Play Store in 2017

There aren’t many online platforms that can compare to the size of Google’s Play Store. It is estimated that the Android digital distribution service hosts more than 3.5 million apps, with thousands of new offerings being uploaded on a daily basis. Given these numbers, we won’t exactly go out on a limb by saying that keeping the app store free from malicious software and developers isn’t an easy undertaking. Still, it looks like Google is getting better at protecting users and their devices from harm’s way.
A recent post on the Android Developers …

New record for HQ Trivia as 1.6 million vied to win $15,000 on Sunday

HQ Trivia is hotter than ever. The live trivia game show has been available for both iOS and Android users since late last month. The app has been updated in an attempt to prevent it from freezing, like it was wont to do. HQ also has apparently scaled up its servers to handle a larger number of game players. On January 1st, we told you that the 9pm game that evening drew 1 million people for the first time, but only 750,000 were allowed to play.

The cap is now higher. Sunday evenings’ trivia battle attracted an HQ record 1.6 million users to a special game that offered a higher than usual …
