OnePlus upgrades its trade-in program just before the OnePlus 6 is unveiled

With the OnePlus 6 expected to be unveiled a week from today, the company announced an improved trade-in program to help prospective buyers save some cash. After all, the OnePlus 6 will probably be the company’s most expensive phone yet; notches and IP certification ratings don’t come cheaply, you know. With the new trade-in plan, devices from any manufacturer can be used in a trade, but higher values will be given to those products made by Apple, Samsung, Sony, Huawei and Google.

Motorola confirms new Android Beta Experiences program is on its way

Motorola has confirmed it will be introducing a new software beta program. Earlier today, the company took to the stage in Brazil to unveil a total of six new devices – three Moto G6 models and a further three Moto E5 handsets were revealed. Alongside these, the company’s Vice President of Product Dan Dery also announced plans for an upcoming Beta Experiences program.

The executive didn’t mention any specifics, but the new program will likely allow users to beta test new versions of Motorola’s Android apps and possibly even future OS releases with the hope of gathering feedback and ironing …

'Rise' stars reveal the winners of NBC's theater grant program


In a heartwarming video, NBC and the cast of the new show Rise revealed the recipients of NBC’s R.I.S.E. America Project grant program for high school theater programs around the country.

The video above shows a few of the submission videos from the 50 high schools that received $10,000 each from R.I.S.E. America Project – including Mariposa County High School, which was heavily affected by the California fires that ravaged the state in 2017. The grant program was inspired by NBC’s new drama Rise and falls within National Theatre in Our Schools month.

Auli’i Cravalho (Lilette) and Damon J. Gillespie (Robbie) told the winning high schools that they were selected for the grant, leading to some emotional responses from students and teachers in the theatre programs.  Read more…

Windows 10 Mobile Insider program quietly comes to an end

Today, we have some bad news to pass along to those few remaining Windows 10 Mobile users who have been receiving updates via the Windows 10 Mobile Insider program. A tweet from Microsoft’s Brandon LeBlanc indicates that no more insider builds of Windows 10 Mobile are coming. Windows 10 Mobile phones will still receive monthly security updates from Microsoft, but nothing else is expected to be pushed out.

Microsoft has already said that it won’t be adding new features to Windows 10 Mobile which means that there will be no reason to send out any updates (again, other than security updates) …

Huawei P10 and P10 Plus Android 8.0 Oreo beta testing program launched

Huawei is working to bring Android Oreo to as many of its previous flagships as possible. The Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro are the last Huawei devices that received the update, so it’s time for the Chinese giant to focus on other smartphones in its portfolio.

Well, it appears that the next Huawei phones that will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo are the P10 and P10 Plus, the company’s last year flagships. Huawei is now looking for beta testers for its Android 8.0 Oreo beta testing program that will bring the update to both the P10 and P10 Plus.

Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 Oreo beta program ends January 15th, public update could roll by end of January

Samsung rolled out the first Android 8.0 Oreo update public beta for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in early November, and it’s now been two months since it’s been beta-testing the update. iPhone sales could suffer from Apple's $29 battery replacement program, here are the estimated numbers

Apple’s decision to lower the price of iPhone battery replacements to $29 (from $79; 63% discount) could cut into its 2018 smartphone sales. These observations were made by Barclays analysts, but anyone following the Battery Gate scandal would have guessed as much.
