Google Play first-time app installs surpassed App Store's by more than double in 2017

It appears that 2017 was a great year for Apple, Google and mobile users alike, at least according to the latest report from research company SensorTower. The report claims mobile users spent no less than $58.6 billion on apps and games last year via in-app purchases, subscriptions, and premium apps on both the App Store and Google Play. Suffice to say that’s a 35% increase over 2016.

Although App Store at about every category, there’s one where Google Play is far ahead of Apple’s applications store: first-time app installs. The report published recently by SensorTower …

The unannounced LG G7 now has an app on Google Play: LG Wallet

LG today released Wallet – a new Android app presented as a “secure
mobile payment application for LG’s premium mobile handsets.” What’s
really interesting about this app is that, according to its description, it can be used only on an LG G7 (at least at this moment).

Of course, an LG G7 doesn’t exist yet, or not commercially
anyway. We are expecting a G7 to be introduced in the coming months (as a
successor to last year’s G6), but the device will likely be released under a
different name, as LG is looking to refresh its flagship phone naming scheme. Most
probably, the description …

Android 7.1.1 Nougat starts rolling out to Moto G4 Play after a 6-month delay

It looks like Motorola has finally kicked off the roll-out of Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for the Moto G4 Play. The last major OS update the smartphone will receive is now available for download to unlocked Moto G4 Play units around the world.

Unlike the Moto G4 and G4 Plus that got a similar update last year, Moto G4 Play owners had to wait several more months to get the benefits of Android Nougat. Some of you might remember that Motorola started to push Android Nougat to the Moto G4 Play back in June, but for some reason, the update was only available to a small percentage of users.

App Store and Google Play, watch out for records on New Year's Day

This year has been big for tech. So big, in fact, that electronics’ sales grew 7.5% over the holidays. This may not sound like much, but has in fact been the largest such increase in a decade, meaning that there was quite a lot of gear under those Christmas trees that will have to be opened, set up, and apps and games have to be loaded on it. Case in point – the Nintendo and Sony servers went down yesterday, as millions of folks tried to log in or register accounts simultaneously.

Last year, the Christmas weekend saw app sales shoot through the roof at a 52% increase over the previous one, …
