Google Pixel 2/2 XL owners complain about overheating and battery issues after February update

Back in January, the Android 8.1 update left several Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL owners unable to swipe up on the lock screen so that they could enter their PIN code. Now, it appears as though the February security update also was disseminated with unwanted side effects. On Reddit and Google’s Pixel User Community website, there are several complaints from Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL users about their handset overheating. Additionally, since installing the update, some Pixel 2/2 XL owners say that they are experiencing lower than usual battery life on their units.

Google rewards loyal Nexus owners with 20% off the purchase of a new Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL

If you’re relatively new to the world of smartphones, you might not remember the Nexus line of handsets that were offered by Google starting back in 2010. Built by different manufacturers (HTC, LG, Samsung, Motorola, and Huawei), the Nexus line’s claim to fame was the stock Android OS installed. As a result, these models were always among the first to be updated to the latest Android build.

In 2016, Google didn’t release a new Nexus model, and instead offered the HTC built Pixel and Pixel XL. Last year, the HTC built Pixel 2 and the LG produced Pixel 2 XL were released and are currently …

Amazon refunds Prime Exclusive phone owners who paid to remove the ads

Since 2016, Amazon has been offering an ever-increasing lineup of Prime Exclusive phones – unlocked devices sold at significantly lower prices. There has always been a catch, though – they shipped with preinstalled Amazon software and had lockscreen ads. While you couldn’t remove the apps, you had the option to pay a fee (depending on your device) to remove the lockscreen ads. At least that was the case until last week, when Amazon made the decision to remove the lockscreen ads for everyone, but increase the cost of every Prime Exclusive device by $20.
But …

The search giant is hoping that you loved the experience of listening to the free audiobook on your Google Home so much, that you will pay for future audiobooks.

There is a clock on this freebie. You must make your selection by next Friday, February 9th or you will lose the opportunity …

Hundreds of iPhone X owners can't answer incoming calls (sometimes), Apple is looking into the issue

A seemingly growing number of Apple iPhone X owners are complaining about the fact that they can’t properly use the device as a phone. More exactly, some users are reporting that, at times, they can not answer incoming calls.
The issue arises because the screen of the iPhone X sometimes wakes up 6 to 10 seconds after a call comes in – thus, the user is unable to access the virtual Accept and Decline buttons, while the caller is probably wondering why he/she is being ignored. As of today, February 4, almost 800 iPhone X users have signaled this problem (or variations …

Some Surface Pro 4 owners put their slate in the ice box to stop screen from flickering

A small number of Surface Pro 4 owners are having trouble with flickering screens. Given the name Flickergate by some, the problem has been discussed on Microsoft’s support forums by those unfortunate enough to find themselves with one of the tablets exhibiting this behavior. The big problem for these owners (said to include at least 1,600 people), is that their expensive slate is no longer covered by the warranty.

Microsoft says that it is aware of the issue, but so far the gang in Redmond is only closely monitoring the situation. Since the flickering usually takes place when the …

A mystery update is delivered OTA to several Pixel 2 owners

A small group of Pixel 2 owners were surprised to receive an unexpected second update this month. The new files weighed in at 41.8MB, and fixes critical bugs while improving the performance and stability of the model. The new build number was revised to OPM2.171019.016, which does not match the number seen on the Factory Images page for the Pixel 2. To deepen the mystery, Google did not issue a detailed changelist for the update.

Google’s MO with the Pixel has been to disseminate an update early each month that brings the latest Android security patch to the device, along with any bug fixes. …

Google seeks feedback from Pixel 2 XL owners, asks users to take survey found in settings

Google wants to make sure that Pixel users are having the best experience possible and are truly enjoying their new phone. To do this, some Pixel 2 XL owners are being asked to take a minute of their time to complete a survey. While looking at the settings page, a notification pops up at the bottom of the screen that says, “Help Improve Pixel: 1 minute survey. You can decide whether to opt-in or opt-out.

Should you decide to take the survey, you are asked questions about your level of satisfaction with the phone, how long you’ve owned it, and the name of the company that made the previous …

It appears that a recent update for the Galaxy S8/S8+ might have caused some units to malfunction. The problem seems to come from last month’s software upgrade which contained the October Android Security patch. After installation, the update breaks fast charging on certain devices.
