Android 8.0 Oreo update for the T-Mobile LG V30 is halted again

While one update for T-Mobile customers will resume tonight, another had the breaks applied to it on Saturday. As we told you yesterday, those with the T-Mobile version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will start receiving the update to Android 8.0 beginning at 10pm PDT tonight. The update was first disseminated on April 1st and stopped two days later. If all goes to plan, 39 days will have elapsed between T-Mobile’s halt of the update, and its resumption this evening.

And that brings us to today’s news. Last month, T-Mobile twice delayed the Android 8.0 update for its LG V30 variant. The carrier …

Nokia 7 is now eligible for update to Android 8.1 Oreo

HMD Global has a stellar record of Android Oreo updates, even though is far from being a major player in the smartphone industry. Basically, most of the company’s Nokia-branded smartphones launched in the last year or so have been updated to Android 8.0 Oreo, many of them even getting Android 8.1 Oreo updates.

The last device that makes on the long list of HMD smartphones to receive an Oreo update is the Nokia 7, which is a China-exclusive device. An international, beefed-up version of the handset was launched earlier this year as Nokia 7 plus, but this one comes with Android 8.1 Oreo on …

T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Oreo update to resume tomorrow, May 13th

Back on April 3rd, T-Mobile halted the rollout of Android 8.0 Oreo to its version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The carrier had started pushing out the update on April 1st before it was forced to stop for an undisclosed reason. Well, if you happen to be a T-Mobile subscriber sporting the Galaxy Note 8, we have some great news. Starting tomorrow, Sunday May 13th (which is also Mother’s Day), T-Mobile will resume sending out the Android 8.0 update starting at 10pm PDT (which is actually 1am Monday morning in the East).

The new version number is N950USQU3CRD7 and includes bug fixes and performance …

Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) starts receiving Android 8.0 Oreo

Good news Samsung fans, as the South Korean company has decided to push out yet another Android Oreo update for one of its mid-range smartphones, namely the Galaxy A5 (2017). Although no official announcement has been made, some Galaxy A5 (2017) owners have already received the update, and it’s not a beta build.

What you need to know is that the update is only available for the unlocked model and that it weighs in at 1.3GB. We can confirm the update is rolling out in Romania, but users in other European countries might be eligible for the update too.

Aside from Samsung Experience …

Newest Android distribution numbers show Oreo in use by more than 5% of devices

Google has just introduced its new Android platform for smartphones, but the new OS won’t be released until later this year. Even so, the previous version, Android Oreo isn’t used by a large audience, which was to be expected if you look back at how things evolved in the last couple of years.

Last month Google confirmed Oreo is on 4.15% of the Android devices, and this month, for the first time since its market release, Android O’s market share is above 5%, although not by much.

The numbers show a 1% increase for Android Oreo in just a month, which isn’t much. However, we can safely …

Unlocked LG V30 starts getting Android 8.0 Oreo in the US

Although all major carriers in the United States have already released Android 8.0 Oreo updates for the LG V30, the unlocked model hasn’t received the update yet. It’s common knowledge that unlocked smartphone models are the first to receive major Android OS updates, followed by carrier-bound versions.

Well, it appears that LG was forced by US carriers to deliver Android Oreo updates to their units first, and then offer the same service to consumers who bought the unlocked models.

If you’ve been wondering what’s happening with the unlocked LG V30, it appears that Android 8.0 Oreo …

Android 8.0 Oreo coming to Honor 8 after all

There’s been quite a lot of talk about whether or not the Honor 8 will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo. Despite the fact that it didn’t initially include the smartphone on the list of soon to be upgraded devices, Honor said the 8 will eventually receive some kind of major Android OS update, but didn’t offer too many details about it.

The good news is Honor is actively working on Android 8.0 Oreo for the Honor 8 and is likely to release it very soon. In fact, a build is already available for download if you know where to look, but it’s just for the Chinese version of the Honor 8.

Apparently, …

Moto X4 on Project Fi starts getting the Android 8.1 Oreo update

Motorola released the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Moto X4, the Project Fi model, back in December, so it makes sense for the US company to continue with the updates.

Although a little bit later than we would’ve expected, Google and Motorola have teamed up to offer the latest Android version to those who own the Moto X4 on Project Fi. The official changelog confirms along with Android 8.1 Oreo, the update adds the April security patch.

On top of that, Moto X4 owners will benefit from other improvements like the brand new dark theme and power menu, as well as some under-the-hood …

LG V30 is finally getting Android 8.0 Oreo at T-Mobile, but not the easy way

T-Mobile is the last US carrier which hasn’t yet provided LG V30 owners with an Android 8.0 Oreo update. It’s been more than a month since the other three major carriers in the country released Oreo updates for the V30, but for some reason, T-Mobile was forced to delay it.

Usually, these updates are deployed OTA (over the air), so you don’t really have to do anything aside from waiting to be notified when you can download it. For those impatient, there’s another method that sometimes allows them to get a major update slightly earlier by simply heading to the Settings menu and force pull …

Moto Z3 Play live pictures reveal thin bezels, Android 8.1.0 Oreo, dual-camera setup

The Moto Z3 Play is the next major release coming from Motorola. After revealing its new Moto G6 and E5 series, the US company plans to out something more consistent on the market, the Moto Z3 Play, a mid-range smartphone with a bit more power under its chassis than the phones Motorola introduced this year.

Renders of the upcoming Moto Z3 Play leaked last month confirming the smartphone will feature dual rear cameras and a fingerprint sensor positioned on the side along with the power button. Now, a few live pictures of a prototype unit show a little bit more of …
