Oreo bug incorrectly shuts down mobile data on Pixel phones used on certain carriers

The Oreo update is not such a tasty treat for some Pixel users. It seems that the update to Android 8.0 over certain carriers is causing mobile data on some Pixel models to incorrectly stop working. While a number of users are typing out complaints on various Google product forums (like the Pixel user community), it turns out that one Google employee has said that a fix is in the works. When it is disseminated is anyone’s guess at the moment.

The devices involved are sending out notifications to users telling them that their data allowance has run out. But that is not true. It appears that …

Android Oreo gains support for custom themes via Andromeda add-on for Substratum, no root needed

A while ago, we reported that custom themes may be coming to Android 8.0 Oreo without the need for rooting your device. We are happy to report back that this seems to be the case, although the ability to do so is not quite “native”, in that it requires a third-party app and a PC connection.

Last month, the folks over at XDA discovered, while tinkering with preview builds of Oreo, that the new version of Android has support for Sony’s Runtime Resource Overlay (RRO) theme engine baked-in. This spurned the developers behind the popular custom theming …

Sony has already launched its new Xperia XZ1 flagship smartphone for the remainder of the year, along with a compact version of it, but the Japanese smartphone maker have one more surprise for its fans in 2017.

An unknown Sony H4233 smartphone has been recently spotted at GFXBench, a benchmark that stores new, unannounced devices in its database, and judging by its specs this isn’t a top-of-the-line phone.

Sony H4233 will be a large handset thanks to its 6-inch display with full HD (1080p) resolution. Even though it’s not a flagship, the smartphone is supposed to be equipped with a …

Nova Launcher 5.4 is now rolling out with Oreo goodness on board

Nova Launcher 5.4 has rolled out of beta and into the stable channel. Throughout July, early testers of the popular Android home screen replacement were treated to various improvements, such as a brand new and robust shortcuts system (albeit via third-party app integration), new animations, and the usual tweaks and added layers of polish that can be expected from every update.
The big star of the show is obviously Sesame Shortcuts – a third-party app that’s now deeply integrated into Nova Launcher and allows users to jump to specific apps, or even screens within apps, by simply using the search …

Honor 8 Pro and Honor 6X expected to receive Android 8.0 Oreo by the end of 2017

Honor 8 Pro is one of the most recent high-end smartphones launched by the Chinese company, so it’s no surprise it will be updated to a new version of Android. However, it’s great that Honor is thinking to update mid-range smartphones launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow on board to the latest Oreo operating system.

Honor 6X and Honor 8 Pro will receive the highly-anticipated Android 8.0 Oreo update by the end of the year. The former might get the update in early 2018, but that shouldn’t bother anyone who purchased the smartphone.

Apparently, there was a …

Action Launcher gains support for Oreo Adaptive Icons

Action Launcher has just cemented its position as one of the best and most versatile Android launchers even further. In its latest beta (v28, which is now live), Action Launcher adds native support for one of the cool features that debuted in Android Oreo – Adaptive Icons.

Android has traditionally lacked any rigorous rules about the size and shape of app icons, and this doesn’t really change in Oreo, but the latest version of the OS introduced a bunch of “masks”, or styles, that grants users the freedom to transform all the icons on their devices into one of four …

Verizon starts pushing Android 8.0 Oreo update to the Pixel and Pixel XL

Verizon announced a new major Android update is now available for Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. The carrier-branded handsets are now receiving the update that’s been released by Google last week, which is quite surprising.

Usually, carrier-bound smartphones get updates much later than unlocked models. If you’ve purchased the Pixel or Pixel XL via Verizon, you can now download the new Android 8.0 Oreo update.

The update brings new PIP (Picture-in-Picture) mode, which allows you to use other apps while still watching a video on YouTube. Notifications visuals …
