Asus just announced that one of its newest smartphones, the
ZenFone 4 Max, is now officially available to buy in the US and Canada. The handset is sold
unlocked (1-year North American warranty included), costing $199 in the US, and $299 CAD in Canada.

Far from being a high-end smartphone, the Asus ZenFone 4 Max
is made for customers in need of an affordable handset with long battery life.
The device packs a very generous 5,000 mAh battery – according to Asus, this

Samsung officially announces the Gear Fit 2 Pro with 5 ATM water resistance and improved strap design

Just last week, at least two local Samsung websites published the official product pages for one of the company’s latest wearables, the Gear Fit 2 Pro. And while we were sitting there wondering whether this was a weird but deliberate decision on Samsung’s part, all the info was pulled, proving it was actually just mistake.

But today at the Korean giant’s pre-IFA press conference, the Gear Fit 2 Pro was finally made official, this time for real. And just as we’ve already seen, it’s little more than an update on an already existing (but still quite good) …

Sailfish OS for Sony Xperia X officially launched, but you'll have to pay for it

Sailfish OS did not have too much success in the smartphone industry. After a few failed partnerships with Intex, Fairphone, and TRI, the Finnish company is now trying a different approach.

Apparently, Sony Mobile allowed Jolla, the company behind Sailfish OS to optimize the platform for its Xperia X smartphones. Today, Jolla announced that its new Sailfish X operating system for Sony Xperia X has gone gold and will soon be available for purchase.

Yes, you read that right. Jolla will sell the Sailfish X to everyone who wants to install it on the Sony Xperia …

Google officially unveils Android 8.0 Oreo, mascot and all

As expected, Google has taken the wraps off its newest version of Android and revealed some information about the devices that will be upgraded in the coming months. First off, it’s Android Oreo, not Android Orellete as a previous report wrongfully claimed.

Android Oreo is supposed to be faster, smarter and more powerful than any of the previous versions of the mobile platform. It comes with picture-in-picture and Autofill, these two features being available in the latest Developer Preview builds as well.

New notification dots will now allow users to see …

LG officially announces f/1.6 aperture for V30 camera

The upcoming LG V30 will feature a dual main camera with the widest aperture ever found on a phone, as officially announced by LG earlier tonight. Its main camera at the back will boast an f/1.6 aperture allowing 25% more light to reach the camera sensor than an f/1.8 smartphone lens, such as the one on the LG G6 flagship or on last year’s LG V20. The expected result – clearer images, even in low light.

In addition to that, the LG V30 will use glass instead of plastic for its camera lens. Thanks to the material’s properties, the so-called Crystal Clear Lens will …

iOS 11 beta 5 is out: Tons of bug fixes, 32-bit apps officially get phased out

iOS Developer Preview beta 5 is now out, bringing a host of small incremental changes to the current state of the operating system that will most likely make it to the final release of iOS 11, though nothing’s written in stone – with probably one beta to go before iOS 11 goes public, we’re likely in for some further changes to Apple’s latest software.
Gimmicky changes like icon changes aside, the big news here is that iOS 11 Beta 5 now officially ditches 32-bit app support, which will be one of the highlights of the upcoming software release from Apple. If …

Samsung officially announces Unpacked event for August 23rd; Galaxy Note 8 anybody?

This afternoon, Samsung sent us an invitation to its next Unpacked event. This will be held on August 23rd in New York City. If you’re thinking that this date sounds familiar, that is because last week we told you that reports out of Korea called for an August 23rd unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Now we should make one thing clear about the invite we received today. The words Samsung Galaxy Note 8 aren’t written anywhere on it. But a blue silhouette in the shape of the Samsung S Pen is included, and that pretty much takes the mystery away.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is expected …

Bluetooth speaker and wearables maker Jawbone is officially dead

The writing has been on the wall (and ceiling, and floor) for quite some time, but it’s now official: Jawbone, maker of various wearables and Bluetooth speakers, is dead. Well, mostly.
Sources of both The information and The Verge have independently confirmed that the company has entered liquidation proceedings, and will be shutting down. Meanwhile, its switch to vaguely described health products has shifted to a new company, called Jawbone Health Hub, along with its CEO, Hosain Rahman, and an unknown quantity of existing Jawbone employees. The …

Gchat is officially dead, long live Hangouts

Google announced back in March that it will transition Gchat users to Hangouts, which will eventually end up in Gchat being completely retired. The chat service that was launched back in 2005 as a means of communication between Gmail users will be closed today and replaced with Hangouts.

Gchat, or Gtalk, users have been served numerous prompts in the last couple of months, which warned them about the change and invited them to switch to Hangouts by the end of June. If you haven’t done that yet, after June 26, Gchat users will be automatically transitioned to Hangouts.

According to …
