Microsoft to bring Mobile View mode to Office for iOS

Mobile View is the new feature iOS users will benefit when using one Microsoft’s Office apps, specifically Word. The developers have just announced that a couple of new features and improvements will be added to the Office package on the iOS this month.

The most important, Mobile View is supposed to adjust a document to the iPad screen so that you won’t have to pinch and zoom whenever a document doesn’t fit the size of tablet’s display.

Word app will also receive Learning Tools, which enable users to adjust text spacing, column width, and page color. Keep …

OneNote for Android scores Office Lens integration in latest update

OneNote for Android has scored a new update that adds Office Lens integration to the note-taking app. Google recently did something similar with Keep and Google Lens, although the feature is currently available only on a limited number of phones that support Lens. Microsoft’s solution, on the other hand, works on pretty much any device, so long as it has OneNote installed on it.

Office Lens is Microsoft’s take on mobile document scanning and has been quite reliable thus far, in my experience at least. It’s pretty adequate at cleaning artifacts from your …

What backlash? 'The Last Jedi' just crossed $1 billion at the box office

TwitterFacebook

While the rest of the world was off ringing in the New Year, Star Wars: The Last Jedi was busy crossing an important landmark.

Actually, make that two.

Less than three weeks after its debut, The Last Jedi has officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. As of writing, its total is up to $1.04 billion, according to Box Office Mojo

Only Beauty and the Beast and The Fate of the Furious did better globally in 2017, with $1.26 and $1.24 billion, respectively. (Despicable Me 3 lags just behind with $1.03 billion.) Read more…

'The Last Jedi' rules the 2017 box office with a chart-topping $220 million opening

TwitterFacebook

In news that should surprise precisely no one, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is poised to become the proud owner of 2017’s biggest opening weekend at the U.S. box office.

Take a moment to process this not-at-all-unexpected development. I’ll wait.

Sunday estimates point to a massive $220 million weekend, giving The Last Jedi‘s first days in theaters a commanding lead over the previous 2017 chart-topper among domestic releases: Beauty and the Beast

The live-action remake nabbed $174.8 million in its first three days. Even if the current Last Jedi estimates fall short, there’s virtually no chance of it finishing the weekend with less than what Beauty pulled in. Read more…

Microsoft to bring new Office improvements to iOS users in November

Microsoft continues to improve its Office bundle with new features that brought to users all over the world on a monthly basis. The next update detailed by Microsoft is aimed at iOS users and is expected to arrive by the end of November.

However, Office Insiders can already access the updated versions of Office apps. Microsoft plans to add a brand new feature called “digital ink,” which will be available for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for iPad and iPhone.

Digital ink is especially useful when used with digital pencil, as users will be able to sketch their …

Microsoft confirms new ink effects and custom pens are coming to Office for iOS

Microsoft has just started testing new features for some of its iOS apps in the Office bundle. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint have all gotten improvements that will soon be available to everyone.

For the time being, Office Insiders are the only ones getting the new Office 2.6 version on their iOS devices. An update containing all these new features will be available via App Store in October.

As the title says, among the most important new features added in the update, there’s an option to choose a personal set of pens and highlighters for inking. Also, Microsoft …

'Mother!' takes a 'Black Swan' dive at the box office, but that might be good news

TwitterFacebook

Black Swan didn’t open big either, for what it’s worth.

Mother!, the latest mindf*ck from writer/director Darren Aronofsky with stars Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem, is off to a seemingly slow start at the box office. Despite opening this weekend in more than 2,300 theaters, the current three-day domestic estimate is $7.5 million.

That’s less than one-third of the movie’s reported $30 million budget. It’s still enough to land Mother! in the #3 slot on the weekend box office charts, behind fellow newcomer American Assassin ($14.8 million) and record-breaking horror champ It ($60 million). Read more…

Office for Android getting some nifty new features in July

Microsoft has just unveiled plans for a new Office update that will arrive during the month of July on Android devices. Well, technically, there will be more than one updates since Office is now split in multiple apps: Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, and Word.

In any case, Microsoft announced that the first new features it readies for Office users on Android have already been pushed to the Insider ring. If you’re part of the Office Insider program, then you should be getting a couple of new features in the next few days. Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for the testing …

'Pirates of the Caribbean' box office is a series-low in the U.S.

TwitterFacebook

The declining popularity around Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean movies continues — in the U.S., at least — with the release of Dead Men Tell No Tales.

The fifth entry in the series is looking at an opening weekend domestic estimate of $62.2 million at the box office. It’s good enough for a first-place finish, but it isn’t the runaway success Disney was likely hoping for.

Dead Men is pacing toward the series’ second-lowest opening in the U.S., after the 2003 originalThe Curse of the Black Pearl opened with $46.6 million domestically, but back then it was also an unproven blockbuster based — seemingly impossibly, at the time — on a theme park ride. Read more…

Leonardo DiCaprio used a standard, office file folder for his climate march sign, lol

TwitterFacebook

Look, let me start by saying Leonardo DiCaprio has done a lot to combat climate change.

He produced a climate change documentary titled Before the Flood that dropped in 2016. He has a foundation “dedicated to the long-term health and wellbeing of all Earth’s inhabitants.” The foundation has given $61 million to causes that align with that mission statement. He talks about climate change all the time. And, also, he was among the ~200,000 people in Washington, D.C. on Saturday to protest a White House that very much does not share his (scientifically valid) concern for the damage people are doing to the climate.
