Microsoft confirms new ink effects and custom pens are coming to Office for iOS

Microsoft has just started testing new features for some of its iOS apps in the Office bundle. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint have all gotten improvements that will soon be available to everyone.

For the time being, Office Insiders are the only ones getting the new Office 2.6 version on their iOS devices. An update containing all these new features will be available via App Store in October.

Black Swan didn’t open big either, for what it’s worth.

Mother!, the latest mindf*ck from writer/director Darren Aronofsky with stars Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem, is off to a seemingly slow start at the box office. Despite opening this weekend in more than 2,300 theaters, the current three-day domestic estimate is $7.5 million. 

That’s less than one-third of the movie’s reported $30 million budget. It’s still enough to land Mother! in the #3 slot on the weekend box office charts, behind fellow newcomer American Assassin ($14.8 million) and record-breaking horror champ It ($60 million). Read more…

Office for Android getting some nifty new features in July

Microsoft has just unveiled plans for a new Office update that will arrive during the month of July on Android devices. Well, technically, there will be more than one updates since Office is now split in multiple apps: Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, and Word.

In any case, Microsoft announced that the first new features it readies for Office users on Android have already been pushed to the Insider ring. If you’re part of the Office Insider program, then you should be getting a couple of new features in the next few days. Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for the testing …

'Pirates of the Caribbean' box office is a series-low in the U.S.

The declining popularity around Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean movies continues — in the U.S., at least — with the release of Dead Men Tell No Tales.

The fifth entry in the series is looking at an opening weekend domestic estimate of $62.2 million at the box office. It’s good enough for a first-place finish, but it isn’t the runaway success Disney was likely hoping for.

Look, let me start by saying Leonardo DiCaprio has done a lot to combat climate change. 

He produced a climate change documentary titled Before the Flood that dropped in 2016. He has a foundation “dedicated to the long-term health and wellbeing of all Earth’s inhabitants.” The foundation has given $61 million to causes that align with that mission statement. He talks about climate change all the time. And, also, he was among the ~200,000 people in Washington, D.C. on Saturday to protest a White House that very much does not share his (scientifically valid) concern for the damage people are doing to the climate.
