Sony to hold MWC 2018 press conference on February 26, new Xperia phones incoming?

Although Sony has already unveiled a trio of Xperia phones early this year at CES (Consumers Electronics Show), we expect the Japanese company to unveil a couple of more handsets next month at MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2018.

As a matter fact, we’ve just been invited to Sony’s MWC press conference scheduled to take place on February 26. The invitation doesn’t mention anything about phones, just that we’ll get to see their latest technological achievements.

However, since MWC is all about smartphones, we strongly believe that we’ll see at least two new Xperia devices, including a …

China's Xiaomi to attend MWC 2018, is a Mi 7 flagship announcement likely?

China’s Xiaomi is slowly but steadily amping up its attempts to successfully penetrate the western market, and while its official presence in the US is still a mirage, the prolific device manufacturer has not abandoned its desires to become a household name.

It would seem that Xiaomi will be attending the important MWC trade show in Barcelona, Spain, this year, which will mark its first presence on such a large and important expo. The company was heavily rumored to attend last year’s MWC, but ultimately skipped it.

Alcatel 3c leaked out in press renders ahead of MWC 2018 unveiling

TCL announced its 2018 smartphone lineup a few days ago at CES (Consumer Electronics Show), but it didn’t give any details on the devices. However, we do know at least three phones will be introduced next month at MWC (Mobile World Congress) trade fair: Alcatel 5, Alcatel 3v and Alcatel 1x.

One other smartphone that wasn’t mentioned by Alcatel, the 3c leaked out last month as one of the cheapest phones with an 18:9 display. Apparently, the Alcatel 3c will be available in Europe for just €120 outright, a decent price for what the phone has to offer.

Today, a couple …

Rumor: Sony's first Snapdragon 845 phones, Xperia XZ1 Premium and XZ1 Plus, will be unveiled at MWC 2018

If you’re waiting for Sony to announce new high-end
smartphones at CES 2018 later this month, you might be in for a disappointment.
According to Georgian website Vortex.ge, Sony plans to unveil its first
high-end handsets of the year a bit later, at MWC (February 26 – March 1). If that’s true, Sony’s CES 2018 press event will
likely bring us just mid-range and lower-end phones like the recently
leaked Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra, and L2.

Reportedly, Sony intends to showcase the following
smartphones at MWC 2018: Xperia XZ1 Premium, Xperia XZ1 Plus, and Xperia XZ1s – all
being upgrades …

Huawei P11 expected to be unveiled at MWC and launched in Q1 2018

Earlier this month, leaked images showing a series of promotional information related to the Huawei P11, revealed the camera setup (both back and front) that could be featured on the handset. According to the promos, the next phone in the manufacturer’s “P” series may come with a 40MP Leica triple-lens camera setup with 5x hybrid zoom, and a 24MP front-facing selfie shooter.

A tweet disseminated today by tipster Roland Quandt suggests that we could see the Huawei P11 unveiled at MWC, just like the P10 was this year. The MWC will open in Barcelona next year on February 26th. We already expect …

Sony rumored to finally be ditching its OmniBalance design at MWC 2018

Pretty much any mention of the words “Sony Xperia” online will inevitably get you the same reaction: people unhappy with the manufacturer’s decision to stick with its years-old design principles (even though it’s far from the only company doing it).

But this might soon change, if a new rumor is to be believed: Sony is said to be retiring its OmniBalance for good starting next year. Rejoice!
As you may know, Sony likes releasing its major smartphones in two batches: one early in the year at the Mobile World Congress, and one in …

New Lap Dock for the HP Elite x3 sequel made an unassuming appearance at MWC

As we told you the other day, the most powerful Windows 10 Mobile handset of all time, the HP Elite x3, could be getting replaced real soon. At MWC, HP had the successor to the Elite x3 enclosed inside a glass container. The new phone looks similar to the Elite x3, although it has thinner bezels and the front-facing camera has been moved to the opposite side. It also appears to no longer carry the speaker at the bottom of the handset.

Also making an appearance at MWC was a new Lap Dock meant for the next version of the Elite x3 (Elite x4?) that seemed to get lost in the excitement of the …

MWC '17 booth toor: a gallery of faces and places

MWC is a grand and colorful exhibition. Companies don’t simply put a bunch of demo units on pedestals and docks and leave the attendees to experience them on their own. Far from it. They design shiny, fabulous booths, play loud music, hire artistic and communicative representatives, and even fly in some of their in-house talent so they can talk up their new products right on the spot.

Fancy booths and blinking lights aside, we’s like to appreciate the numerous company reps who worked tirelessly with us and other attendees, presenting the products and just making MWC a wonderful …

Sony Xperia XZ Premium wins "Best New Smartphone" award at MWC 2017

It might go as a surprise for some that Sony got home with one of the biggest GSMA awards at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017. Given the fact that the Japanese company hasn’t changed too much design-wise, and it’s even forced to disable features on its smartphones in some markets, Xperia XZ Premium’s award is quite the achievement.

GSMA recently announced the Sony Xperia XZ Premium has won “Best New Smartphone” award at MWC 2017. The second 4K smartphone launched by Sony, the Xperia XZ Premium is the only flagship introduced at MWC that packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor.

The …

Samsung was secretly showing off standalone VR headsets at MWC 2017

Samsung made a big deal out of the announcement of its newest high-end processor, the Exynos 8895, which is the company’s answer to Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835. International versions of the upcoming Galaxy S8 are said to feature the chip, but it appears the company isn’t content with putting it in smartphones only anymore. According to a report from PCWorld, while the public Samsung showcase was focused on its new tablets, it had a much more interesting thing to show backstage: untethered VR headsets, powered by the 8895.

Right now, virtual reality …
