AT&T kicks off Android 8.0 Oreo rollout for the Moto Z2 Force

Surely, AT&T is not the last major carrier in the United States that releases the Android 8.0 Oreo update for Moto Z2 Force. However, Verizon and T-Mobile have already pushed out Oreo to the Moto Z2 Force back in December, which leaves Sprint to sort it out somehow.

The phone’s support page on AT&T’s website has been updated to confirm the rollout began on February 20. According to the information published by the carrier, the update should weigh in at around 335MB and contains the January security patch.

It’s kind of strange that AT&T reports the Oreo update file is so …

The Moto G6 Plus is one of the many smartphones Motorola plans to introduce in the first half of the year. It remains to be seen whether we’re going to see these new products at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in February or rather later this spring.

Unfortunately for Motorola, most of its 2018 lineup leaked back in January, so if you’ve been waiting for a certain smartphone from the US company’s portfolio, you now have all the information you need.

At least three entry-level and mid-range smartphones are coming from Motorola year: Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus and Moto G6 Play. Details …

Today only: Motorola Moto X4 costs just $269, free wireless headphones included

As of earlier this month, Motorola is selling its Moto X4 smartphone for only $299.99 in the US, thus taking $100 off its original price. But retailer Newegg now has an even greater deal, offering the Moto X4 at $269.99, while also throwing in a free pair of Motorola Pulse Escape Bluetooth wireless headphones with each purchase.
Admittedly, the Motorola Pulse Escape – pictured below – aren’t the most exciting wireless headphones around, and they normally cost just $29, but they’re certainly nice to get for free. As for the Moto X4 handset, …

Motorola Moto G6 Play gets benchmarked, brings Oreo

Motorola is gearing up to unveil its next G6, G6 Play and G6 Plus entrants, with a brand new glass-and-metal design, similar to that of last year’s Moto X4, and prices that will make you smile. While the design already leaked out, in a beautiful, trendy 18:9 screen format, the specs have been the subject of speculation for a good month now.

Well, at least when it comes to the endurance athlete Moto G6 Play, the processor and RAM amount are now done and dusted. The device just popped up in a benchmark, confirming a frugal Snapdragon 430 processor, which we have heard before, but …

Verizon's Moto Z Force Droid receives security update, but only to December 2017 level

Verizon subscribers toting Motorola’s 2016 flagship phone, the Moto Z Force Droid, received an update earlier today. Was it the long awaited (and promised) update to Android 8.0? Not a chance. Moto Z Force Droid owners received an Android security update. And while a security update might be helpful to owners of the phone, today’s update only took the Android security patch level to December 2017.

Since the January Android security update contains the patch protecting handsets from the Meltdown and Spectre exploits, the Moto Z Force Droid remains vulnerable to Spectre. The latter affects …

Et tu, Moto? Motorola patents bezel-less flexible OLED display gear

Motorola and Sony seem to be the last holdouts of the all-screen phone trend, as they keep churning out phones with juicy top and bottom bezels, but that may very soon change, judging from a recent Motorola patent.

Posted on February 8 by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the patent in question shows a variety of nearly bezel-free and even foldable form factors, which can only be achieved by using flexible OLED screens with plastic substrates, like on Samsung’s Galaxy S or Note line of phones.

There are also quite a few variations covered in the …

Thanks to a render disseminated today by super leaker Evan Blass, we now have a fresh look at the Moto E5 Play, which is headed to Verizon Wireless. Pre-paid carrier Cricket Wireless will also offer the same handset under the Moto E5 Cruise name. Last month, we showed you a render of the Moto E5 which is the first Motorola handset to feature a rear-facing fingerprint scanner since 2011’s Motorola Atrix. The scanner will be located under the rear camera, and will contain an image of the iconic Motorola batwings logo.

The Moto E5 Play, the first “Play” variant for the Moto E budget line, will …

The Moto Z2 Force ShatterShield display won't crack, but it will peel (UPDATE)

The ShatterShield screen employed on the Moto Z2 Force uses a 5-layer system that keeps the AMOLED screen from cracking or breaking. When the device first launched, several owners were complaining about scratches on the outer layer of the display. Now, a new problem has popped up. Several owners of the Moto Z2 Force are complaining that the top protective layer on the ShatterShield system has started to peel off the phone.

Those complaining about the peeling say that it is taking place around the fingerprint button, and on the corners of the screen. One theory is that the heat generated …
