Motorola allegedly scraps the Moto X5, development of Moto Mods limited to only a few

Remember the news about the Moto X4 sequel that Motorola might launch at some point this year? We even had a picture of a prototype unit, so the leak was looking pretty solid at that time.

Unfortunately, it appears that Lenovo has decided to scrap the Moto X5 and not launch another X series phone going forward. AndroidPolice reports that despite the fact that Lenovo reduced Motorola’s workforce considerably, it’s still not enough to turn make the smartphone business profitable yet.

The canceling of the Moto X5 is the direct result of Lenovo’s strategy to cut costs. Moreover, Lenovo …

Motorola's newest Style Shell Moto Mods feature Gorilla Glass 5 and interesting designs

Motorola this week stared selling brand new Moto Mods from the Style Shell series. In case you’re not familiar with the Style Shell Moto Mods, these are swappable back covers that can change the aspect of Moto Z smartphones, with little added thickness.
The new Style Shell models are the first Moto Mods made out of polycarbonate and Gorilla Glass 5, and they should be able to survive drops from up to 5.2 feet (1.6 meters). Five different interesting designs are available: Colored Leaves, Expressive Curves, Graphic Flowers, Retro Stripe, and Overlapping Triangles. …

New Motorola Moto Mods (including a camera supporting interchangeable lenses) are reportedly coming soon

Motorola Mobility is seemingly getting ready to release
several new Moto Mods for its Moto Z smartphones. The most interesting – and
possibly the most expensive – among them should be a camera Mod with support
for interchangeable lenses (made by the likes of Canon, Nikon, and Sony). Such
a Moto Mod could transform a Moto Z smartphone into a serious alternative to DSLR and
mirrorless cameras, although it remains to be seen how well this can perform.

A second new Moto Mod should be an upgraded projector
(offering 35% more brightness and a larger battery compared to the current …

Motorola is expanding its Moto Mods portfolio with two new accessories meant to be used alongside Moto smartphones: Lenovo Vital Moto Mod and Livermorium Slider Keyboard Moto Mod.

Both will be up for grabs through the Moto Z Market app in the Google Play Store, but only in those countries where the Moto Z is available for purchase. Motorola confirmed the Livermorium Slider Keyboard Moto Mod will go on sale later this winter for $99, while the Lenovo Vital Moto Mod should hit the shelves in April for $395.

The most expensive of the two, the Lenovo Vital Moto …

Motorola launches Moto Z Market app, so you can order Moto Mods on your Android phone

Motorola wants to make it easier for customers to purchase Moto Mods for their smartphones, including ordering these accessories on their handsets. The new Moto Z Market application for Android does just that by allowing Motorola smartphone owners to order Moto Mods compatible with their device.

Apparently, the application only works in the United States, so you might not be able to order Moto Mods if you’re located in another country. Obviously, you won’t be able to install Moto Z Market on smartphones other than Motorola’s.

If you don’t live in the United …

Images of upcoming Moto Mods leak; Amazon Alexa speaker and Polaroid Insta-share printer surface

Back in February, during MWC 2017 in Barcelona, Motorola announced several new Moto Mods for the Moto Z and Moto Z2 series. Among the modular accessories introduced were the Amazon Alexa speaker and the Polaroid Insta-Share printer. Today, tipster extraordinaire Evan Blass sent out a tweet that gives us a look-see at both new MotoMods. The Alexa speaker converts your Moto Z(2) into a handheld Echo smart speaker thanks to the presence of virtual assistant Alexa. The latter will control your smart home, give you the latest news and weather, allow you to shop by voice through Amazon, and much more.  …

Moto Z2 with Moto Mods surfaces on official Chinese Moto site; phone to be unveiled July 25th

An official Moto website in China has already posted an image of the Moto Z2 prior to the phone’s expected unveiling on July25th. While the phone does have a strong resemblance to the already available Moto Z2 Play, the Moto Z2 sports a dual camera setup on back unlike the single rear snapper on the Z2 Play. Similar to the original Moto Z, the Moto Z2 will feature a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 (QHD).

Under the hood you will find Qualcomm’s current top-of-the-line Snapdragon 835 chipset. That means that the unit is driven by an octa-core CPU and the Adreno …
