Qualcomm working to optimize Snapdragon 845 chipset for mixed reality use

Qualcomm’s next top-of-the-line chipset, the Snapdragon 845, will power more than just the next series of high-end handsets. The chip has capabilities built-in to allow it to run mixed reality devices. The Adreno 630 GPU will support wall-collision detection, important if the world you are looking at is not really the world you’re standing in. In addition to consuming 30% less power than the Snapdragon 835 chipset, the new component employs Qualcomm’s third-generation AI platform that can offer scene and object recognition while on the move.

Microsoft's upcoming Mixed Reality app (formerly View 3D) is Android bound according to video?

Microsoft posted a job listing the other day, apparently seeking developers to build a 3D scanning and augmented reality app for mobile devices. One question not answered by the listing is which platform(s) will be the recipient of this work. It appears that Microsoft might have given away the answer with a promotional video it released back in May. The video, which we’ve embedded at the stop of the story for your viewing pleasure, shows a preview of Redmond’s View 3D app. The upcoming app will now be known as Microsoft’s Mixed Reality viewer when released.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War for Android and iOS released to mixed reviews

The day has finally come for Lord of the Rings fans to taste some of the hack’n’slash goodness that publisher Warner Bros. promises to offer them through its latest mobile title – Middle-earth: Shadow of War.

Soft-launched a few months ago, the game is now available for free via App Store and Google Play. Unfortunately, many of those tried Shadow of War are disappointed by the in-app purchase system adopted by Warner Bros.
