Biliary Atresia, a condition leading to liver damage and there arises the need for liver transplantation. A liver transplant is removing a diseased liver and replacing it with a healthy one via surgery. A congenial deformity in which the liver is not connected to the bile duct and the bile juice is not able to go to small intestine, affects the liver because of accumulation of bile juice in the body. Statistics show that 75% of the liver damages are occurring because of this cholestatic liver disease, Biliary Atresia.
Other medical conditions for liver transplantations are Wilson’s disease, jaundice, liver cancer and intrahepatic cholestasis. A patient is need of a liver transplant only when the patient is having any chronic condition that has prevented it from normal function. Liver transplantation if done successfully would last for a long time. The regenerating capability of liver is much better than any other organs thus making the transplantation successful for many years. The advancement of technology and science facilitates the liver transportation more successful in India.

Nowadays Liver Transplant in India has become common and the need for liver donor is becoming high. There are about 20,000 patients who are in need of liver transplant and about 500 patients only are able to do transplant. The main cause for the sudden trigger in the increase of liver malfunction is the obesity in the patients. Children who are affected by Hepatitis A virus are much prone to liver malfunction. The cost for liver transplant surgery in India is much less compared to other countries. If the surgery is carried on time, there will be success rate of 80%. There should be close follow-up of the patient after transplant, and the patient can return to complete normal condition after transplant.
