Do you think the message landed?

As Donald and Melania Trump sat for Midnight Mass in the wee morning hours of Christmas Day, the presiding reverend at one point seemed to speak directly to the Twitter-loving 45th president. It happened during the homily, which focused on the power of words.

You can probably see where this is going.

As a Sunday morning White House pool report notes, Reverend James Harlan started off with a quote from Nelson Mandela:

Harlan went on to talk about the ways that words can be used, both to make the world a happier, better place and to do harm. If you want to imagine him pausing on that last point and shooting a meaningful glance at Trump right there, go right ahead. It helps set the scene. Read more…

Verizon fumbled a mass layoff, and is now under a labor commissioner scrutiny

Oh, the thumbnail image? It’s former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders giving a fiery corporate greed/labor-adds-value type of speech in front of striking Verizon employees last year. Recently, mass layoffs at the Verizon Data Services India (VDSI) brought renewed focus to the practice, and Verizon seemingly fumbled a procedure or two.

More than 900 people, mostly mid-level staff, were given the pink slip there due to “role rationalisation.” That’s not all there is to it, though, as some of the employees reported pretty rough handling:

Samsung is ready to mass produce 8nm FinFET chips

Samsung said today that it is ready to start mass producing chips using the 8nm FinFET  Low Power Plus process. The 8nm LPP node fills a gap between the 10nm process used last year and most of this year, and the 7nm process expected to be employed in 2018. Samsung says that it is ready to increase the production yield to stable levels thanks to the lessons it learned with the production of 10nm chips.

Compared to 10nm Low Power Plus chips, the 8nm LPP takes up 10% less area inside a device, and at the same time it consumes 10% less power which saves battery life. Samsung does count …

Report: Huawei's Kirin 970 SoC entered mass production this month

Huawei, one of the world’s largest handset makers, will be among the last to unveil its flagship smartphone for the second half of the year. While Samsung, HMD, Google and even Apple are expected to announce new products in the next couple of months, Huawei will introduce the Mate 10 in October.

However, one thing that will set the Mate 10 apart from other flagships to be launched on the market later this year is the SoC (system-on-chip). Huawei is expected to include its new, not yet released, HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset inside the Mate 10.
