The nation’s largest carrier, Verizon, has been selling unlocked handsets to its customers. This allows them to switch carriers, and replace one SIM card for another. But starting this Spring, Big Red will be making a big change. Today, Verizon announced that it will soon start locking handsets that it sells to its subscribers, preventing them from changing carriers with a simple SIM switcheroo.

Consumers looking for a deal on a smartphone have been able to save anywhere from $25 to $100 off the retail price by buying them from Amazon, as long as they didn’t mind being forced to watch lock screen ads. Starting tomorrow, February 7th, Amazon is no longer forcing these ads on Prime Exclusive buyers. And those who already own a Prime Exclusive model will receive a software update that removes the ads from their phones. While the ads are gone, new Prime Exclusive models will still come with pre-installed apps from Amazon.

There are many Android users who for one reason or another, choose Cortana over Google Now. Unlike the latter, Cortana does have some personality. Microsoft has made Cortana available for both Android and iOS, and a new update found in the Google Play Store takes the app to version 2.5.0.
