Report: LG's 2018 flagship to feature 6.1-inch screen, SD-845 inside; June launch possible

According to a report published today, LG’s delayed flagship phone could be launched in June. An anonymous source, who was briefed on LG’s plans to release a smartphone with the code name “Judy,” says that the handset will feature a 6.1-inch screen. This will be a new type of display called MLCD+. Thanks to a white sub-pixel that will be part of the RGBW matrix, the display will be very bright (in the 800-nit range) but consume 35% less energy than a typical IPS LCD screen.

Under the hood will be a Snapdragon 845 mobile platform carrying an octa-core CPU and the Adreno 630 GPU. 4GB of RAM …

The one big question I had during SpaceX's Falcon Heavy rocket launch: Who is Space Bae?

TwitterFacebook

Elon Musk’s SpaceX did the unimaginable on Tuesday — it successfully completed its first test launch of its Falcon Heavy rocket, the company’s most powerful rocket ever. And while many questions remain about what the launch means for SpaceX, there is one question we can’t stop obsessing over:

Who Is Space Bae?

During the Falcon Heavy launch telecast, SpaceX invited a host of engineers to take us behind the scenes at Cape Canaveral, with each engineer providing more info about the company’s groundbreaking test flight. One of those hosts was a fine (pronounced “fione“) human who I have dubbed Space Bae, because that’s what he is. A bae. Who is teaching us about space. While looking like an absolute snack.  Read more…

What SpaceX's Falcon Heavy launch means for the future of spaceflight

TwitterFacebook

SpaceX had a pretty big day on Tuesday.

The Elon Musk-founded company successfully launched its maiden flight of the huge Falcon Heavy rocket and landed two of its three main boosters back on Earth after sending a Tesla Roadster to space.

With this launch, SpaceX and Musk effectively made a long-shot rocket dream come true before our eyes and made good on a promise made more than five years ago.

“We tried to cancel the Falcon Heavy program three times at SpaceX,” Musk said during a briefing after the launch. The technical challenges associated with building the rocket were much worse than the company initially bargained for, but none-the-less, Musk and his team pulled through.  Read more…

Apple HomePod smart speaker to launch without stereo sound and multi-room capabilities

After the holiday shopping season came to an end last month, Apple could only morn the missed opportunity it had to satiate the public’s demand for the hottest device in tech, the smart speaker. Apple originally planned to launch the HomePod in December, just in time to capture some holiday sales. But in November, Apple deemed the device “not ready for prime time,” and pushed back the release until early this year. As a result, both Amazon and Google grabbed the lion’s share of smart speaker sales during the holiday shopping season. Overall, 7% of gift boxes unwrapped this year contained a smart …

Apple's HomePod is probably going to launch any day now

TwitterFacebook

Apple’s answer to the Amazon Echo and Google Home smart speakers, the HomePod, is almost ready for launch.

After missing its release last year, the $350 smart speaker has now been approved for sale by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which means Apple will probably start selling it very soon.

Following its delayed launch, Apple said it “needed a little more time” to get HomePod ready for customers.

Apple said HomePod would start shipping the U.S., UK, and Australia “in early 2018”. Well, it’s early 2018, and everyone’s still waiting for the Siri-powered speaker to show up.  Read more…

Apple's HomePod smart speaker gains FCC approval; launch could be imminent

Amazon and Google made good use of the delay that forced Apple to push back the launch of its HomePod smart speaker from December to sometime early this year. Echo and Home devices helped smart speakers have a very Merry Christmas and Chanukah. The relatively new product (first launched worldwide in 2015) accounted for 7% of gifts handed out this holiday season in the states.

Without Apple’s high-end HomePod out of the way, both Amazon and Google had a clear playing field. While Microsoft’s Invoke was available, along with a few other competitors, the top two smart speaker manufacturers …

LG rumored to launch V30 model with improved AI features at MWC 2018

According to a new report, LG might be preparing to unveil an upgraded version of its V30 model at MWC 2018. Sources of The Korea Herald suggest that the enhanced handset will come with “improved AI features” and will possibly be called “V30+ α”. The Korean media outlet is rather vague as to what these AI features will be, but it does mention that LG has likely developed them in direct collaboration with Google.
While we do recommend that you take this information with a pinch of salt, LG Mobile’s recent change of strategies does make the story seem a bit probable. …

Siri's "Give me the news" feature is out of beta indicating an upcoming launch of the Apple HomePod

A recent feature that allows Apple’s virtual assistant Siri to respond to a request to “Give me the news” with a few minutes of top stories, is now out of beta. In the states, the default newscast comes from NPR’s News Now podcast, which is also where Amazon’s Alexa has been getting her news from. It is interesting that Apple is now adding some Alexa-style capabilities to Siri in anticipation of the company’s release of its HomePod smart speaker. After all, Alexa became popular thanks to its placement on Amazon’s top selling Echo smart speaker product.

Galaxy S9 and S9+ launch date, according to rumor

As we all know, the Samsung Galaxy S9 duo is nearing announcement — even Samsung’s own president of mobile, DJ Koh, confirmed that the new phones will be unveiled at MWC 2018, which starts on the 26th of February. But history has shown us that announcements and actual product launches are two different things. So, how long will it take for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ to land on store shelves?

Prolific leakster Evan Blass might have the answer. He has tweeted a bit of information, which has allegedly been leaked by a C-Suite executive. Here goes:

According to a C-level executive …
