Earlier today, we showed you a video that revealed how Apple iPhone X users will set up Face ID so that the facial recognition system can unlock their phone or verify their identity. …

Ming-Chi Kuo says to expect a dual camera setup for the Samsung Galaxy S9

Last month, an analyst from Hana Financial Investment named Kim Rok-ho, said that he expects the Samsung Galaxy S9 to feature a dual camera setup. Another analyst, Park Hyug-woo from Shinhan Investment, predicted that dual cameras will appear on the back of both the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. With all due respect to those two analysts, the tech world doesn’t get terribly excited until such a proclamation comes from an analyst with a proven track record, like KGI Securities Ming-Chi Kuo.

While Kuo is known for his fabulous calls on Apple devices, the analyst has lately …

KGI's Kuo: Series 3 Apple Watch won't support stand alone phone calls at launch

Just yesterday, an inside source allegedly from Apple told CNBC that the Series 3 Apple Watch would be able to receive and initiate calls without having to be paired to an iPhone. Speculation has the wearable getting unveiled as soon as next month, alongside the 2017 iPhone models. In addition to making and taking stand alone calls, the new wearable should also be able to stream music even when not paired to an iPhone. Many tech fanatics, excited about the idea of a stand alone Apple Watch, are getting ready to purchase the wearable sometime before 2017 comes to an end.

However, this morning …

Ming-Chi Kuo sees only two to four million iPhone 8 units available on launch day

KGI Securities, the brokerage house that employs highly regarded Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, is now telling clients to expect the tenth anniversary iPhone to be unveiled on time this September. KGI says that the handset will be available in black, gold and silver some time next month. However, there will be a very limited number of handsets assembled and ready to go by next month, according to KGI’s report. Ming-Chi Kuo expects that only two to four million iPhone 8 units will be available for purchase on the launch date. While that is certainly a limited number, by the end of the year Apple will …

KGI's Kuo sees in-screen embedded fingerprint scanner debuting on the 2018 Samsung Galaxy Note 9

It has turned out to be one of the biggest technological difficulties of the year, affecting Samsung, Apple and most likely other less well-known smartphone manufacturers. Finding the solution could lead to a shift in more than several million dollars of handset sales. If you haven’t figured out what we are discussing here, it is the placement of a biometric fingerprint scanner embedded under a smartphone display. Such a placement is necessary for manufacturers to offer edge-to-edge “button-less” and “bezel-less” screens without resorting to less popular (read “rear-facing”) solutions.

Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple's 10.5-inch iPad Pro is prime for a June announcement at WWDC 2017

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has a fresh prediction in regards to the upcoming (allegedly) 10.5-inch iPad Pro. The Apple Nostradamus thinks the tablet in question will be formally announced at the company’s WWDC event in June. It sounds like a logical probability, although Apple doesn’t have much of a track record with device announcements at its developers conference.

Then again, this 10.5-inch iPad could be a little extra special with a design that reportedly features super-thin screen bezels. So Apple might be interested in showing it around at its big event. With sluggish …

Kuo: Apple's Siri-powered smart speaker to be priced higher than the new Amazon Echo Show

As you probably know by now, Apple is rumored to be introducing its own smart speaker next month at WWDC. The latest word we have about this device is that Apple is putting the finishing touches on the product, which will feature a speaker made by Beats, and the Siri virtual personal assistant. Amazon, who created the category with the Amazon Echo back in 2015, has raised the bar with its introduction last week of the Amazon Echo Show. This model, which resembles an office intercom, comes with a 7-inch touchscreen display, and adds a 5MP camera. It also will be able to make phone calls between …

Kuo says Apple iPhone 8 faces "worse case scenario" shortage

KGI securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo is considered one of the best analysts covering Apple. In the past, he has provided the specs and features of upcoming iPhone models months before the phones were unveiled. The point is, when Ming-Chi Kuo talks about Apple devices, people listen. Or at least, they should listen. And Kuo is now telling KGI’s clients that the tenth anniversary model of the iPhone, dubbed the Apple iPhone 8, is facing huge shortages because of production problems.

According to Kuo, he worries about the 3D sensor on the front-camera of the iPhone 8. At one time, the analyst said …
