Essential Phone receives January security patch which includes fixes for Meltdown and Spectre flaws

When you’re packing stock Android, like the Essential Phone is, updates are sent fairly quickly. For example, the handset has just started to receive the January Android security patch today, not long after it was released by Google. Latest January update for Pixel phones brings "anti-aging" display fixes

Google is not wasting any time and it kicks off 2018 with an important update for its Google Pixel lineup of phones that helps with aging of the AMOLED screens. The update has already started rolling out for the Google Pixel 2 XL, but also for the Pixel 2, as well as for last year’s Google Pixel and Pixel XL.

Sony may announce new Xperia smartphones on January 8

On New Year’s Day 2018, Apple set a record for the most revenue earned by the App Store in one day. Just a few days ago, on January 1st, the App Store brought in $300 million in gross revenue. During the seven days that started on Christmas Day, the App Store took in an amazing $890 million. Since the launch of the store in July 2008, Apple has paid out $86 billion to developers for their share of paid apps and subscriptions purchased through the App Store.

Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 Oreo beta program ends January 15th, public update could roll by end of January

Samsung rolled out the first Android 8.0 Oreo update public beta for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in early November, and it’s now been two months since it’s been beta-testing the update. The company now says it will close access to the public beta program today, on January 5th (it’s your last chance to sign up), as the beta testing will officially end on January 15th.

After leaking out earlier today, the OnePlus 5T in a brand new color, “sandstone white” has just gone official on the company’s website.
The new OnePlus 5T finish pays tribute to the original OnePlus “sandstone” designs and has the same textured finish on its back that makes it different from all other phones out there. It is also looks very similar to the limited Star Wars edition 5T released exclusively to India earlier.

January Android security patch will protect Android users from Spectre vulnerability

Google is getting ready to protect Android users from a new exploit dubbed Spectre. The latter can affect processors from Intel, AMD and ARM which means that mobile devices are vulnerable. An affected handset can leak sensitive information including passwords. The good news is that it is not as easy to exploit compared to other vulnerabilities. Since Spectre can infiltrate cloud servers, customer data belonging to corporations could be at risk.
