HTC U12+ to have four color variants, including Translucent

Expected to be HTC’s only high-end smartphone of 2018, the unannounced U12+ (allegedly pictured above) should be officially showcased later this month, on May 23. Until that happens, we have some new details about the handset.
According to Roland Quandt (who’s provided accurate information in the past), the HTC U12+ will be available in four color variants, at least in Europe. The colors are Black, Violet, Red Rose, and Translucent. As you may know, the HTC U11+ (introduced in November last year) also has a Translucent variant – this allows you to view …

Google Maps to add new features including "For You" and "Your Match"

Google announced today at Google I/O that some new features are coming to Google Maps. “For You” is a service that provides Google Map users with custom recommendations for local places to eat, hang out and more. For those using Google Maps, it saves them the aggravation of having to open another app (like Yelp) to see similar information.

Another new upcoming feature will rate a location based on the previous places a user entered into Maps, and give it a score out of 100. The higher the number, the more likely Google thinks that the person will enjoy visiting this destination. This is …

Google Assistant gets new features on Wear OS, including Actions support

Google has just announced a new set of features are making it to its Assistant on Wear OS. The announcement is a bit of a surprise, as the company is readying for Google I/O, its biggest event of the year.

The new features announced today are meant to make Google Assistant more convenient to use. Smart suggestions are now available for Google Assistant users, who will now be able to choose from contextually relevant follow up questions or replies to continue a conversation.

Another important new feature is the option to hear answers to your questions rather than read them on the smartwatch. …

New Motorola Moto Mods (including a camera supporting interchangeable lenses) are reportedly coming soon

Motorola Mobility is seemingly getting ready to release
several new Moto Mods for its Moto Z smartphones. The most interesting – and
possibly the most expensive – among them should be a camera Mod with support
for interchangeable lenses (made by the likes of Canon, Nikon, and Sony). Such
a Moto Mod could transform a Moto Z smartphone into a serious alternative to DSLR and
mirrorless cameras, although it remains to be seen how well this can perform.

A second new Moto Mod should be an upgraded projector
(offering 35% more brightness and a larger battery compared to the current …

Google's Portrait Mode has been ported to most Android phones, including Samsung Galaxies with Exynos processors

While everyone out there is busy simulating large camera apertures and shallow depth of field by using two cameras and some crazy algorithms, Google did what it does best when it released the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL and doubled down on the crazy algorithms, sans the multi-camera modules. Essentially, Google brought Portrait Mode to its phones without the need for a second sensor — it just uses machine learning to split and analyze the data from the sensor of its primary camera.

Now, if you own a phone with a single main camera, like the Galaxy S7 or S8, or if you have one of LG’s fisheye-bearing …
