Six new smartwatches receiving Android Oreo, including Huawei Watch 2 and Casio WSD-F20

The list of Android Wear smartwatches that are supposed to receive the new Android Oreo update is quite long. Some of the wearable devices on that list have already received the update, while others should get it very soon.

Today, Google confirmed that six smartwatches are now getting the long-awaited update: Huawei Watch 2, Casio WSD-F20, Casio WSD-F10, Polar M600, ZTE Quartz and Mobvoi Ticwatch S & E.

All these smartwatches were part of the initial list of wearable devices pursuing the Android Wear Oreo (8.0) update, but not in the first wave of smartwatches to receive it. Only …

New Motorola Moto Mods (including a camera supporting interchangeable lenses) are reportedly coming soon

Motorola Mobility is seemingly getting ready to release
several new Moto Mods for its Moto Z smartphones. The most interesting – and
possibly the most expensive – among them should be a camera Mod with support
for interchangeable lenses (made by the likes of Canon, Nikon, and Sony). Such
a Moto Mod could transform a Moto Z smartphone into a serious alternative to DSLR and
mirrorless cameras, although it remains to be seen how well this can perform.

A second new Moto Mod should be an upgraded projector
(offering 35% more brightness and a larger battery compared to the current …

Google's Portrait Mode has been ported to most Android phones, including Samsung Galaxies with Exynos processors

While everyone out there is busy simulating large camera apertures and shallow depth of field by using two cameras and some crazy algorithms, Google did what it does best when it released the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL and doubled down on the crazy algorithms, sans the multi-camera modules. Essentially, Google brought Portrait Mode to its phones without the need for a second sensor — it just uses machine learning to split and analyze the data from the sensor of its primary camera.

Now, if you own a phone with a single main camera, like the Galaxy S7 or S8, or if you have one of LG’s fisheye-bearing …

TwitterFacebook

It was bound to be a tense Golden Globes night in Hollywood after months charged with allegations of sexual misconduct and gender inequality – and perhaps for the better, Sunday’s awards ceremony steered more toward tame. This was a night about toppling the patriarchy, and the presenters and nominees either stuck to that or sat back and let others do the talking.

In addition to all the excellent Time’s Up talk, below were the other highlights of the evening.

1. Sterling K. Brown’s speech

HTC to launch fewer smartphones in 2018, including a mid-range version of U11+

HTC is having a hard time, especially after selling most of its mobile staff to Google. Even so, the Taiwanese company plans a comeback in the smartphone business, but that might not happen in 2018.

According to industry sources, HTC will launch a limited number of smartphones in 2018. The company’s R&D and marketing efforts will focus on a single flagship and a few mid-range Android smartphones, which will be released next year.

To improve its presence in the mid-range segment, HTC plans to release a water-down version of the HTC U11+ in January 2018, …

OneDrive updated with improved Android Oreo support, including notifications enhancements

Although Microsoft’s OneDrive service had some issue in the last couple of weeks, the Redmond-based company had time to add a few new features to the Android app.

Now, OneDrive version 5.2 does not seem to have been uploaded to the Google Play Store yet, or it’s not available everywhere for the time being. However, we do know for sure the new version comes with improved Android Oreo support.

Basically, starting with the new version, OneDrive for Android will feature full support for Android Notification Channels, which will allow users to take control over …
