Samsung Pay update includes an updated UI

What makes Samsung Pay different (at least until LG Pay hits the states in H1 of 2018), is the fact that the mobile payment system works with both NFC enabled check-out platforms, and with older POS registers that do not work with NFC. For the latter, Samsung Pay uses magnetic secure transmission (MST). This allows Samsung Pay to work on any POS system that accepts swiped credit cards, which includes just about any retailer. LG Pay also plans on using both a traditional NFC system and one that works with magnetic card readers.

Essential Phone receives January security patch which includes fixes for Meltdown and Spectre flaws

When you’re packing stock Android, like the Essential Phone is, updates are sent fairly quickly. BlackBerry KEYone for AT&T gets new update that includes the October Android Security Patch


According to the AT&T website, the carrier has pushed out a software update for the carrier’s version of the BlackBerry KEYone. The update carries a build number of AAP606 and weighs in at 40-46MB. Once installed, the update features the October Android Security patch, including a fix for the BlueBorne vulnerability. The version of Android that will be running the handset remains at Android 7.1.1.

Released today, the first beta of iOS 11.2 includes SiriKit for developers to use with HomePod

Today, Apple released the first developer beta for iOS 11.2, even though iOS 11.1 is still in beta. This update makes SiriKit available to developers to use to integrate their apps with Apple’s upcoming HomePod smart speaker. Apple is requesting that those writing apps for HomePod check to make sure that their SiriKit integration is up-to-date, and that the voice-only experience for their app is working. This is tested by plugging headphones into a developer’s iOS device using the iOS 11.2 beta.
