A dad carved Hogwarts out of ice for his daughters

Most dads have a “world’s best dad” mug, but this guy probably has the actual trophy.

Kelly Davies of Alberta, Canada is an ice sculptor. So a heavy snowfall meant lots and lots of material to work with. What better thing to do with it than build a huge Hogwarts replica?

The sculpture features a section of the Great Hall as well as Albus Dumbledore’s own chair, according to CBC. Davies chose the magical school as his artistic subject for his daughters Anna and Julia, who are eight and six years old. Read more…

Some Surface Pro 4 owners put their slate in the ice box to stop screen from flickering

A small number of Surface Pro 4 owners are having trouble with flickering screens. Given the name Flickergate by some, the problem has been discussed on Microsoft’s support forums by those unfortunate enough to find themselves with one of the tablets exhibiting this behavior. The big problem for these owners (said to include at least 1,600 people), is that their expensive slate is no longer covered by the warranty.

Footage of dog being rescued from frozen creek will thaw your ice cold heart

2017 is in dire need of heartwarming tales, so here’s one about a dog that fell into a frozen creek and was successfully rescued by a team of firefighters.

Last week, Denis Pilon, a fire chief at Swift Current Fire Department in Canada, shared a video on Facebook of several firefighters and members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police rescuing someone’s pet dog. 

“STAY OFF THE ICE!!” Pilon wrote, explaining that the dog wandered onto the ice and fell through after its owners let him run off-leash. 

To bring the dog back to shore the team secured one of the firefighters with a rope and sent him out onto the frozen water. The ice was so thin that the firefighter also fell through, but thanks to the rope he was able to recover the dog and pull it to safety. Read more…
