Samsung's profits hit record

Samsung may be aiming to make us fat and lazier than ever, checking the fridge content and the visitor at the door from the couch in front of the TV, but obviously it is delivering what people want, as it just did a record profit forecast song and dance for this past quarter.

In a regulatory filing ahead of its Q4 earnings announcement, which is apparently obligatory to do in South Korea for listed companies, Samsung says that it expects to have pocketed about $14.1 billion in the October-December period. For comparison, its last earnings guidance, for Q3, was $12.8 billion, …

Apple's iPhone 9, Xs and Xs Plus may hit gigabit LTE with MediaTek and Intel inside

Apple may be switching to MediaTek as an extra wireless modem supplier indeed, to fill the hole in its soul left by the patent battle with Qualcomm. It is already using inferior Intel modems for most of its 2018 iPhones on GSM carriers, but, unfortunately (for Apple, that is), it has to use Qualcomm on CDMA ones like Verizon or Sprint in the US, and it’s exactly the those licensing and royalties fees that it is trying to escape from.

That may all come to an end next year, when sources say that Intel will be supplying the vast majority of iPhone modems with its new gigabit LTE creation, …

Huawei Mate 10 rumored to hit AT&T shelves in February

If you live in the U.S. and have fallen for the Huawei Mate 10, the latest rumor suggests that you might be able to pick up the phone from AT&T as soon as February. Back in November, there was speculation that the Huawei Mate 10 Pro would be heading to the nation’s second largest carrier. Recently, Huawei president Richard Yu said that the company would be expanding its smartphone operations in the U.S. during 2018. While not mentioning any carrier by name, the executive said that Huawei would be selling its flagship model through U.S. carriers next year, and that would be the Mate 10.

James Cameron remembers the time he almost hit Harvey Weinstein with his 'Titanic' Oscar

TwitterFacebook

Even before his downfall, Harvey Weinstein had a habit of pissing people off.

Case in point: James Cameron recently recounted the time he nearly hit Weinstein with an Oscar statue – 19 years ago.

Cameron revealed to Vanity Fair that he and Weinstein almost came to blows at the 1998 Academy Awards (i.e., the one where Titanic won all the Oscars).

The two began arguing on the main floor of the Oscars theater, just as music started playing to let attendees know they needed to return to their seats before the live televised feed began.  Read more…

Apple shares hit an all-time high as analysts say that iPhone X pre-orders are ahead of expectations

Apple’s market capitalization hit an all-time high today when the company’s shares hit $168.07 during the NASDAQ trading day. And while the stock closed trading on Monday at $166.72, up $3.67 for the day, Apple’s current valuation of  $861 billion brings it closer to being the first company to be worth $1 trillion. To hit that mark, Apple would have to rise 16% to $193.64.

The catalyst for the rally is the strong showing made by the Apple iPhone X once pre-orders were opened up Friday morning. Apple said that orders for the tenth anniversary model were “off the charts,” and that the …

Miley Cyrus performs a grown-up cover of her Disney hit, 'See You Again'

TwitterFacebook

A lot’s happened since Miley Cyrus released her 2007 bubblegum pop single “See You Again” off the album tied to her Disney Channel series, Hannah Montana.

And though the last 10 years have included a series of highs (“Party in the U.S.A.”, a true banger) and lows (shameless cultural appropriation, a true disappointment), Cyrus seems to be settling back into her country roots as of late. Her BBC Live Lounge cover of “See You Again” shows just that — a decidedly grown-up, country-tinged spin on one of the songs that put her on the map in the first place.

The verdict: We’re into it. Read more…

T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network was employed by Nokia and Qualcomm on Friday, to send data at speeds of 1.175Gbps. The test was run on 60Hz downlink spectrum and used  3x carrier aggregation to increase the capacity of the network.
