This Moviphone is an Android handset with a built-in projector

Ask an American what Moviefone is, and he/she will tell you that it is an app (originally a call-in service) that lists movie times, shows trailers, and even tells you what new flicks are available on streaming sites like Netflix. But now, there is another Moviphone, although it is spelled quite differently. This Moviphone happens to be an Android handset with a built-in projector. Images can be projected to as large as 100-inches, which tops the 70-inch maximum projection available with the InstaShare Projector Moto Mod. At 50-Lumens, the Moviphone is about as bright as the Moto Mod projector.

Amazon India teases new Samsung Galaxy On handset which could be a rebranded Galaxy J7 Pro

Amazon India has started teasing a new Samsung Galaxy On handset. Considering that the Galaxy On models have always been rebranded Galaxy J units, the question is which one of the latter models is getting turned on. Or should we say, turned into an On. Amazon’s Indian website mentions the phone’s “Superior Performance,” and a “New Way To Shop.” The latter could be hinting that the phone will be equipped with Samsung Pay or another mobile payment system. Since the Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro is the only model in the series with support for the complete Samsung Pay package, that could be the phone that …

End of the road for the BlackBerry Priv: No more security updates for the handset

The BlackBerry Priv will no longer receive monthly security updates as 24 months have passed since the device arrived on the shelves. In a lengthy blog post, BlackBerry’s Alex Thurber  explains that the company has successfully kept the device secure and up-to-date for the standard amount of time, but regular security patches will no longer be rolled out for the handset.

When we introduced our first Android device more than 24 months ago, we committed to delivering 2 years of monthly software updates for the PRIV. True to our word, we fulfilled this commitment …

OnePlus says 5T is its fastest selling phone ever, handset now ships in up to 2 weeks

Not long after launching the 5T – its newest flagship
smartphone – OnePlus announced that this became its “fastest selling
device” to date. Earlier this year, OnePlus said the same thing about the
OnePlus 5, which means the 5T is more successful than its predecessor.

According to OnePlus, it took only 6 hours to realize that
the 5T broke its sales records. Unfortunately, the company did not share exact
numbers, so we don’t know just how many OnePlus 5T units have been sold in those 6
hours. In any case, right now, the new phone is a bit hard to get, at least in
the US.
If you want …

Do not factory reset your Android 8.1 powered handset, unless you want to brick it

Bricking a phone is never fun, and on Android 8.1 you could easily find yourself bricking your daily driver by simply performing a factory reset on the device. That is what happened to Tom Bolger. Tom had just updated his phone to Android 8.1, but forgot the PIN code for his handset. That left him with no choice but to do a factory reset. Honestly, most of us would rather have a Foley catheter inserted than factory reset our phones. But sometimes a smartphone owner has no choice.

The problem arose after Bolger’s phone had completed the factory reset. In the past, he would have been prompted …

Google Assistant can now control Chromecasts from your Android or iOS handset

The Google Chromecast allows you to stream content through your television set by plugging it into your set’s HDMI port. Simple as that. But only a Google Home smart speaker would allow you to bark a command to Google Assistant demanding that Chromecast stream a particular bit of content. Not even your expensive edge-to-edge models like the Samsung Galaxy S8 or the Essential Phone could do that.

Well folks, those days are over. Late last night, Google confirmed that you can now control Chromecasts with Google Assistant on your Android or iOS flavored handset. For example, you can specify …

New BlackBerry handset (BBD100-1) receives its Bluetooth certification

Back in June, reliable tipster Evan Blass sent out a tweet stating that BlackBerry has as many as two new handsets planned, carrying the code names Juno and Krypton. At the time, that was all of the information that could be found about these handsets. Today, a BlackBerry phone with the model number BBD100-1 received its Bluetooth certification from the Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group).

Based on rumored specs, the BBD100-1 could be another model in the DTEK line up. Designed and manufactured by TCL under a license procured from BlackBerry, the models currently sporting the DTEK name …

Huawei could top Apple in Q3 handset shipments

A report published today forecasts that Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei will ship more handsets than Apple for the calendar third quarter, which ends at the end of September. Huawei has already stated that it has its sights set on eventually topping Samsung and Apple by 2021 to become the number one smartphone manufacturer in the world. Huawei’s supply chain says that the company expects sales of its P-series and M-series models to do well during Q3, along with its lower-end Honor branded phones.

During the third quarter, Huawei could deliver more than 40 million units, up from the …
