Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ hands-on: worthy of celebrity hands

For every smartphone market watcher out there, it’s clear as day that Samsung is doing a rather awesome job with its Android smartphones. In fact, the company is doing tremendously great – its Galaxy S line of high-end phones is incredibly successful, and is the only smartphone you can see in celebrities’ hands, other than iPhone. Indeed, the Galaxy S has achieved what almost no other Android smartphone has: people like it and desire it for the sleek product that it is, and not for reasons such as ‘affordable price’ or ‘good value for money’.

2017’s Galaxy S8 was a great leap forward, …

Amazon invests $90 million to get its hands on chips that can extend the battery life of devices

Toward the end of last year, Amazon spent $90 million to purchase Blink. This is a company that makes home security cameras. The reason for the acquisition might have little to do with security or even cameras. According to a report published today, those familiar with Amazon’s thinking say that the company bought Blink to gain access to the latter’s energy-sipping chips. Blink says that its cameras can run for two years on one pair of  AA lithium batteries.

Amazon is said to be looking over Blink’s exclusive chips to find out if it can use them to lower production costs and extend …

Game of Thrones cinematographer gets his hands on an LG V30, praises its camera

When the LG V30 launched about a month ago, the company proudly announced how focused on video production its new phone is. That’s how the V series has been rolling for the past couple of years — the V20 put focus on audio by introducing the quad DAC, and the V30 upped the ante by adding cinematography features to turn your phone clips into something more than simple memorabilia.

One David Franco recently posted a home-made video made with the V30 and praised the phone in an interview. Who’s Mr. Franco? Well, he’s a cinematographer who worked on movies like The …

Jabra Elite 25e hands on

Rising from the ashes of a once booming Bluetooth headset
market, Jabra has successfully transitioned into making earphones and other
audio accessories – a feat that one of its main competitors *cough* Jawbone *cough* could not do. Earlier
this year Jabra released a pair of wireless sport earbuds, which boasted a
solid feature-set at a good price. This week the company has released a more
casual, but still “elite” follow-up: The Elite 25e.

The Elite 25e is a
behind the neck set of earphones, with buds strung along at either end of the
neck piece. The silicon buds themselves …

Alcatel A7 and A7 XL hands on

Not to be outdone by all the recent releases, Alcatel has
unleashed two of its own lower-mid-range contenders – the A7 and A7 XL. We take a first look at these devices to see if they pack enough value and features to create some buzz in this already crowded price point.

Design and Display

The XL is the better looking, metal bodied, and obviously
larger of the two. Packing a 6-inch, 1080p IPS display, the A7 XL’s metal
backing gives a more premium feel than the textured plastic of the A7, which
has a slightly smaller 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display. They’re both thicker …

Apple may take OLED panel production in own hands to reduce reliance on Samsung

Although Samsung has been widely suggested to be the sole supplier of OLED displays for the upcoming iPhone 8, Apple is actively working toward reducing its reliance on supply from the Korea-based tech giant.

According to a new report by Korean publication ET News, Apple has procured a number of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) machines that are used in OLED manufacturing with the intention to set up its own panel line in Taiwan. Although previous reports suggest that Apple’s partnership with Samsung may continue throughout 2018, when Apple is expected to introduce …
