Verizon plans to light up its Gigabit Class LTE network in select markets in the United States during 2018. Although the carrier has yet to reveal the regions where its new network will be available starting this year, we do have a list of devices that will support Gigabit LTE.

If you’ve been following our Verizon-related news, then you probably know that a handful of smartphones have already been updated by the carrier with support for its Gigabit LTE network.

You’ll most likely identify them in the list below, which contains all the smartphones that will …

Apple's iPhone 9, Xs and Xs Plus may hit gigabit LTE with MediaTek and Intel inside

Apple may be switching to MediaTek as an extra wireless modem supplier indeed, to fill the hole in its soul left by the patent battle with Qualcomm. It is already using inferior Intel modems for most of its 2018 iPhones on GSM carriers, but, unfortunately (for Apple, that is), it has to use Qualcomm on CDMA ones like Verizon or Sprint in the US, and it’s exactly the those licensing and royalties fees that it is trying to escape from.

That may all come to an end next year, when sources say that Intel will be supplying the vast majority of iPhone modems with its new gigabit LTE creation, …

Verizon updates the Moto Z2 Force to support Gigabit Class LTE speeds

Owners of the Verizon version of the Moto Z2 Force should expect a notification about an update to come across the screen at any time. This is a pretty important update that will allow the device to support Big Red’s upcoming Gigabit Class LTE service. A couple of months ago, Verizon tallied a 1.07 Gbps speed in a lab using Qualcomm’s X20 LTE modem chip.  Don’t expect such a high speed from the Moto Z2 Force since the latter employs the less powerful X16 modem. And the phone won’t be used inside the perfect conditions found inside a lab.

The software version of the update is NDX26.183-15 …

Sprint tests gigabit LTE network on unannounced Motorola smartphone with Snapdragon 835 CPU

While T-Moible and Verizon are constantly at each other’s throats for offering the most feature-rich and affordable unlimited service plan, Sprint is working on rolling out its gigabit LTE network over in New Orleans in the United States. The first official test of the gigabit network took place on March 8, 2017 at Smoothie King Center during an NBA basketball game, and the tech required to pull off the test is quite impressive.

In order to achieve gigabit LTE data speeds, Sprint used 60MHz worth of its 2.5GHz service spectrum, and both 4×4 MIMO and 256 QAM tech was present as …

ZTE is looking into the 5G future with the ZTE Gigabit Phone

The 5G era is not too far away. However, most smartphone manufacturers are in no hurry of exploring it, trying to focus on solid present-day devices, instead of dreaming about the future. But other brands, such as ZTE, are looking to push towards new and exciting technologies, as they try to play with the big boys.

This is probably why ZTE just announced that it will have a “forward-looking” device on display at MWC – the ZTE Gigabit Phone. According to the Chinese company, the handset will be setting new standards for download speeds, at 1 Gbps. This should allow …
