Newegg has the unlocked LG G5 on sale for $259.99

It might not be a current generation model, but you can pick up the unlocked LG G5 from Newegg for only $259.99. Interestingly, this model is powered by the Snapdragon 820 chipset while the LG G6 has the Snapdragon 821 SoC inside. That means that there is only a slight difference between the chipset that powers both phones. In addition, because the LG G5 works with some modular accessories, the 2800mAh battery can be removed and exchanged for a freshly charged one.

Deal: Buy the LG G5 for just $299.99 and get a free LG 360 VR headset worth $129.99

LG tried to launch a whole new set of modular features with 2016’s LG G5 flagship phone. However, consumers didn’t take too kindly to it and this year’s LG G6 had removed all of the modular capabilities from the year before. Part of the reason for LG’s decision to give up on modular with this year’s flagship had to do with the Moto Z line released last year by Motorola/Lenovo. The Moto Z series made adding modular accessories a snap thanks to the 16 magnetic pins on the back of the handsets.

Eliminate the modular features, and you still have a serviceable high-end handset with the LG …

Moto G5 Plus won't call 911 when using Verizon's VoLTE

If you’re a Verizon subscriber rocking the Moto G5 Plus, better hope that you don’t have an emergency while using Big Red’s VoLTE service. A bug is preventing the Moto G5 Plus from dialing the 911 emergency number when attempting to make the call over LTE. Motorola/Lenovo has come clean, admitting that there is a software glitch that is preventing Verizon subscribers from summoning emergency help with this specific phone. Again, this is only happening on VoLTE.

While Motorola/Lenovo says that it is working on a fix for the issue, turning off VoLTE will eliminate the problem for now. Matt, …
