Call OF Duty 2017 Will Take Franchise Back to its Root

Activision says this year’s Call of Duty will “take Call of Duty back to its roots.”

In a call reporting fourth quarter 2016 earnings, Activision elaborated that “traditional combat will once again take center stage” in this year’s title, which is currently in development from Sledgehammer Games.

Activision also commented on the lower-than-expected sales of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare last year, noting that the “space setting didn’t resonate” with players, and Infinite Warfare “wasn’t the success we planned.”

Still, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg noted on a call following the earnings report that “we’ve never been more excited creatively or commercially about our three-year Call of Duty slate.”

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare launched last fall and went on to be the best-selling game in the United States for 2016 despite not hitting the heights of previous Call of Duty sales. Youtube Video

Angry Birds 2 Launches Worldwide

Angry Birds 2, the official sequel to the wildly popular mobile game from Finnish app developer Rovio, has launched today on both iOS and Android.

While the basic gameplay remains the same – essentially catapulting a variety of birds at a group of heavily armoured pigs – there are now multiple stages in each level and new spells, including “blizzards”, “magic ducks” and “hot chili peppers”.
There are also new characters, including a bird called Silver, which Rovio claims grew up in Pig City and has acquired “porcine habits and an odd sense of humour,” but whose flying skills make her a “powerful new member of the flock”.
Fans can challenge other gamers worldwide and, for the first time, choose their own birds to fling, according to Rovio.
“Design technology has evolved dramatically since the original game launched in 2009,” says Rovio co-founder Niklas Hed.

“With Angry Birds 2 we wanted to bring a level of expressive depth and detail seen previously only in a console game or animated series – and create a new game that kids and adults alike won’t be able to put down.”

Although it is possible to play the whole game for free, Rovio has introduced a new life system that encourages users to make in-app purchases – a bit like Candy Crush Saga.
Unlike the old Angry Birds games, the player is given a maximum of three lives, and when they run out, they either have to spend 60 “gems” to continue, or wait 30 minutes for their lives ro regenerate.
Gems can be earned during the course of the game, or purchased using real money.
“For Angry Birds 2 we put a lot of effort into making it fair, so that you feel justified in spending money, that you get your value from that spend,” Patrick Liu, creative director at Rovio told BBC News.
“We have no interest in tricking or exploiting our fans. You can access the whole game without spending anything.”
Since launching in December 2009, the original Angry Birds game has been downloaded more than 2.5 billion times. However, despite releasing 10 other spin-off titles, Rovio has failed to replicate the success of the original title.
The company reported a 9 per cent fall in revenue last year, and some experts have questioned whether it has become too dependent on the Angry Birds brand.
However, according to the latest games index from app analytics firm AppAnnie, Rovio was ranked number 8 for top companies in games worldwide by download across iOS and Google Play.

“Angry Birds is the quintessential first mobile gaming success story with their first hit in 2009,” said Fabien Nicholas, vice president of marketing communications and community at AppAnnie.
“Rovio was a true trailblazer, being one of the first studios to truly turn their app into an empire, leading to versions on all major app stores and eventually console, merchandise and soon, a movie.”

WWE 2K Game For iOS Android Free Download

We told you a few weeks ago how WWE 2K was set to be released in spring and today that has happened, with the wrestling game is available to download for both iOS on the App Store and Android on Google Play. You’ll need to hand over $7.99 in order to play it, but there’s plenty to get your teeth into once you have.

Featuring some of the biggest names in past and present wrestling, WWE 2K allows gamers to play as the likes of Hulk Hogan, John Cena, Sting, Triple H, Undertaker, Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Bray Wyatt. If that doesn’t tickle your fancy then you can even create your own custom character too. Just try and come up with a good name when you do!

In a press statement, Visual Concepts president Greg Thomas said that “as the first simulation-based WWE video game for mobile devices, WWE 2K provides an opportunity to experience virtual WWE action anywhere and at any time.” Notice the word ‘simulation’ in there? WWE 2K is the closest thing to a real wrestling game you’re going to find on iOS and Android, which is another reason that $8 price tag shouldn’t put you off in a day and age where developers have conditioned us to expect games to be free with in-app purchases.

Available for both tablets and smartphones, WWE 2K features a career mode that is likely to be the game’s main focus point for most players. Taking your favorite character, or indeed a personally created one, is the kind of thing we used to love about console wrestling games as we grew up. Being able to do it on a tablet or smartphone is just awesome.

Download WWE 2K from the App Store or Google Play Store today. Again, it’s $7.99.
