Google releases final preview of Android 8.1 Oreo for select Pixel and Nexus devices

While many consumers are still waiting to receive Android 8.0 Oreo, only a few will soon be able to update to a much newer version – Android 8.1 Oreo. Google confirmed a few more important new features will be made available along with Android 8.1, but the update will be available to Pixel and Nexus devices only, and probably for quite a long time.

Obviously, Google won’t prevent any smartphone company to push the update, but considering these companies are still struggling to update their products to Android 8.0 Oreo, it’s safe to assume it will take much longer …

For Final Fantasy fans, this week marks the pre-registration opening for Android users on the Google Play Store. There doesn’t seem to be any freebies available to those who pre-register, but at least they’ll be notified the moment the game gets released.

The listing on Google Play reveals some details about the game’s specs requirements. …

Apple is ordered to pay VirnetX a final judgment of $440 million for patent infringement

Over the years, Apple and VirnetX have battled each other in court over patents used by Apple to produce iOS features like FaceTime and iMessage. The legal battle began in 2010 when IP Holding Company (some would say patent troll) VirnetX accused Apple of using its patents without licensing them. Over the years, more iPhone models were added to the complaint and last year a jury awarded VirnetX $302.4 million.

Today, VirnetX announced that on September 29th, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Tyler Division entered a Final Judgment in relation to post-trial …

Microsoft's Belfiore puts the final nails into the Windows 10 Mobile coffin

For many, Microsoft executive Joe Belfiore was the face of Windows Phone. He made important contributions to the development of the platform, having a hand in the creation of the Metro UI, Live Tiles and Cortana. That is why he created an uproar by using an Apple iPhone and a Samsung Galaxy S7 as his daily drivers during a 9-month leave of absence from Microsoft. Belfiore used the time to travel around the world.

Currently, the Microsoft executive uses a Samsung Galaxy S8 loaded with Microsoft software. In a series of tweets that Belfiore disseminated today, he blamed the app gap as the …

Report: HTC and Google "in final stage of negotiation" regarding sale of smartphone business

It may sound like beating a dead horse, and at this point writing it certainly feels that way, but here goes: HTC is in very bad shape. This has been true for a while now, especially following the failure of the HTC 10, though we did for a while think its latest U11 was going to go at least some way towards fixing that problem.

But that obviously didn’t happen, as proven by the Taiwanese phone maker’s latest financials report showing August was its worst month in the past 13 years. Revenue dropped by 51.5 percent compared to last month and 54.3 percent …

Final retail packaging for 10th anniversary iPhone cases show the iPhone 8 moniker?

Last week, we saw a couple of reports concerning the name that Apple will give its tenth anniversary iPhone model. Up to now, everyone has called this device the Apple iPhone 8. Last Friday, we passed along a report stating that this version of the iPhone will actually be called the Apple iPhone Edition. The same rumor mentioned that the sequels to the Apple iPhone 7 and Apple iPhone 7 Plus will be named the Apple iPhone 8 and Apple iPhone 8 Plus, respectively.

If that wasn’t enough to make your head spin, the very next day another rumor made its way around the water cooler. This time, the …

Usain Bolt's final race ended with an unexpected injury, but he's still a legend

TwitterFacebook

This wasn’t supposed to be how it ended.

What should have been a triumphant finish to a momentous career ended in injury when Usain Bolt fell to the track in the midst of his last-ever race at the IAAF World Championships in London on Saturday.

Bolt had apparently developed a cramp in his left hamstring just after taking the baton in his anchor leg of the 4×100 relay and was unable to finish.

The United Kingdom went on to win the race, and America and Japan took second and third as Bolt’s teammates helped him limp off of the track. Read more…
