Need a new feature phone? Verizon's LG Exalt LTE might be for you

Verizon Wireless this week started selling a feature phone (i.e. not a smartphone) made by LG: the LG Exalt LTE.

Presented as the carrier’s “first 4G LTE basic phone,” the new LG Exalt doesn’t feature CDMA connectivity at all, and seems to be Verizon’s first handset to do so. Of course, Verizon’s LTE network is currently covering most of the US, and the carrier plans to phase out CDMA services in December 2019, so we could say that the LG Exalt LTE kind of represents the future – a weird thing to say about a feature phone, we know.

The LG Exalt LTE sports a 3-inch internal display …

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 to feature Infinity Display, will launch with Android 7.1.1 installed?

Last week, we showed you a video that allegedly revealed the large front panel belonging to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Today, a new report out of the Netherlands suggests that the phablet’s 6.3-inch screen will have the same edge-to-edge Infinity Display as the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+. That means that the larger screen on the Galaxy Note 8 will keep the same 18.5:9 aspect ratio found on Sammy’s latest flagship models. That is considered a better ratio for watching videos than the 16:9 aspect ratio found on Samsung’s 2016 high-end models, including the twice-recalled Samsung …

Andy Rubin's Essential Phone should be released next month, will feature a new digital assistant

Officially announced earlier today, Andy Rubin’s Essential smartphone is undoubtedly one of the most interesting handsets we’ve seen in recent years. The phone is partially made out of titanium (which provides extra toughness), sports a 5.7-inch near-bezel-less display with 1312 x 2560 pixels, and is powered by Qualcomm’s mighty Snapdragon 835 processor – certainly, this device will go head to head with all the relevant flagships of 2017.

While the Essential Phone can already be reserved in the US, an exact release date for it hasn’t been provided. Fortunately, …

Excellent note-taking app Bear receives sketching feature in latest update

Bear is one of the best note-taking apps for iOS, and it just got a little bit better in its latest update.

What makes Bear different than most other note taking applications is the ability to easily link notes to create a whole body of work, and you can also easily use hashtags to organize your thoughts. Everything is neatly stored in plain text, so it’s easily transferable between different mediums.

Bear is also a flexible app: as much as it is about basic notes and to-do lists, it’s also well fit for coders or more serious prose writers looking …

Google Photos' printed photo books feature gets soft-launched in Canada

Remember when it was announced at Google I/O 2017 that Google Photos will allow its users to create real-life printed photo books out of their photos? Well, it seems that this feature has been recently soft-launched in Canada, as some users have noticed the new functionality built into their app.

We are not sure when exactly this novel feature will be hitting the US, but we get to see some of the details as well as the pricing of Photos’ printed books.

Users can choose between a softcover, 7-inch square book consisting of 20 pages that will cost them $9.99, and a hardcover …

Confirmed: OnePlus 5 will feature a Snapdragon 835 processor and front fingerprint scanner

In recent years, fingerprint scanners have become almost ubiquitous when it comes to high-end (and even mid-end, or more modest) smartphones.

While some handsets – like the iPhone 7 or HTC U11 – feature fingerprint scanners on the front, there’s a large number of important phones that have their scanners on the back – Samsung Galaxy S8, Google Pixel, LG G6, and so on. As you may know, handsets made by OnePlus fall into the latter category – they’ve always had fingerprint scanners on the front. And we now know that this won’t change with the upcoming OnePlus 5.

OnePlus …

Google Photos for Android is updated to add new Archive feature to remove the clutter

Starting today, an update is rolling out to Google Photos for Android. With this update, users will be receiving a feature called Archive. Archive removes images from the main photos tab and places them on a special page with other archived photos. Doing this makes the Google Photos app look better as you will be able to “hide” duplicates from the main tab. Google says that removing pictures you don’t want lying around the main photo tab “reduces the clutter.” But here is the secret that you will know. Archived photos still show up under searches and in albums.

The Archive page, where the …

Snapchat update adds new “Custom Stories” feature on Android and iOS

Snapchat recently pushed a new update for both its Android and iOS apps. The update brings a single new feature that allows users to create custom Stories and share them with their friends.

To start a new Story, you’ll have to tap the “Create Story” icon in the top right corner of the Stories page. The Story can be about anything and can include any of your friends. It can even be about a particular location.

The catch is that your friends can add to the Story whenever they want as long as you give them access to it. You can also decide who can view the Story, …

Noise-cancelling feature on new HTC earphones works on HTC U11 only

Last week, HTC introduced its new flagship phone, the HTC U11. This year, the company made it a point to listen to the demands from some of its fans by including an IP67 certification rating on the device. That means that the unit can be submerged in as much as 3.2-feet of water for as long as 30-minutes, and emerge unscathed. One area where HTC fans would have liked to have seen more done is with the battery. After stuffing a 4000mAh cell into the mid-range HTC One X10, the hope was that HTC would include a similarly sized power source on the U11. Unfortunately, HTC went with a 3000mAh …

Lenovo: Moto Z2 Play will feature a 3000 mAh battery

Although the Moto Z2 series of smartphones has not been announced, Lenovo confirmed its existence on Twitter. More exactly, answering a question from a fan, yesterday, Lenovo mentioned the Moto Z2 Play – an upcoming smartphone that should replace the original Moto Z Play (released last year).

The only thing that Lenovo revealed about the Moto Z2 Play is that the handset would come with a “non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery.” This confirms a previous rumor, and means that the new battery will, sadly, be less capacious than the battery found inside the original Moto Z Play (a 3,510 mAh …
