Night Mode feature coming to WhatsApp to improve pictures snapped in low-light?

WhatsApp, the messaging app purchased by Facebook in 2014 for a whopping $21 billion, could be looking to add a new feature for its 1.2 billion members to enjoy. On the app’s translation page is a request for the words Night Mode. No, this is not the Night Mode that reverses the black text on white background to produce a UI that won’t strain your eyes at night. This is something else entirely.

The Night Mode for WhatsApp works with the camera UI to enhance the quality of  photographs taken in low-light conditions. This new button could also be added to the video calling feature as …

Facebook rolls out Find Wi-Fi feature everywhere in the world

Last year, Facebook launched a new feature called Find Wi-Fi on iPhone and Android, but it was only made available in a handful of countries. The new functionality would allow Facebook users who are traveling to find Wi-Fi hotspots nearby.

Well, starting today, Facebook announced that it’s expanding the availability of Find Wi-Fi globally on both the Android and iOS platforms. Users who receive the feature on their smartphones will be able to locate available Wi-Fi hotspots that have been shared by businesses with Facebook from their Page.

In order to find …

Report: LG V30 might not feature secondary display, concept could be replicated on new OLED screen

With the LG G6, LG made a statement. It no longer wants to be Gyro Gearloose of the smartphone industry, pushing bold innovation that no one outside its focus groups asked for. LG cleaned house, stripped away all the complexity, and introduced one of 2017’s most understated – and all-around pleasant – premium phones. It was a solid strategy, even though displays of clever engineering, such as the LG G5’s removable battery, will be missed by those able to appreciate them.

According to a “trusted source” as cited by the ever diligent XDA Developers, the same revision …

Huawei Mate 10 could feature a powerful Kirin 970 chipset built on 10nm technology

The upcoming Huawei Mate 10 could shape up to be one beastly device. A recent post from an industry analyst on Chinese website Weibo indicates that the high-end handset could be the first to feature Huawei’s in-house Kirin 970 chip that will be built on a 10nm process.

For comparison, the Kirin 960 found on the Huawei P10 uses a 16nm manufacturing technology. Generally speaking, a smaller semiconductor size translates to greater power efficiency and performance, which suggests that the Chinese manufacturer could make a sizable technological …

HMD to launch new Nokia feature phone, here are the first official pictures

The new Nokia 3310 has already been released in many markets, but this might not be the only feature phone HMD plans to launch this year. While we know the Finnish company is likely to introduce 6 or 7 new handsets by the end of 2017, we don’t know how many smartphones and feature phones are part of HMD’s lineup.

Thanks to some pictures that have been recently published by TENAA, the Chinese regulatory commission, we know HMD will be launching another feature phone in the coming months. The phone doesn’t have a name yet, and no details about its specs or price are available yet.

Tinder's new premium feature is basically a cheat code for online dating

Imagine if you could see which Tinder users have liked you before you decide whether to give them the thumbs up or the thumbs down.
Feels just like a ‘God Mode’ supercheat, especially if you’re a picky one.

Well, for a price, you will be able to do just that – Tinder just unveiled a new premium subscription dubbed Tinder Gold, which is basically the same as the existing Tinder Plus, but with one rather important novelty. That’s the “Likes You” feature, which will allow paying subscribers to see what other users of the dating app have …

Twitter 7.2 for Android released with automatic night mode feature

A few weeks after rolling out a major redesign of its app, Twitter is bringing yet another important new feature to the Android platform: night mode. The new option was available for less than a week in the beta version of Twitter for Android, but now is being pushed to a larger audience.

You will now find the new night mode in the Settings and privacy menu, under the Display and sound tab. There are a couple of options that allow you to tweak the way “night mode” will work on your Android device.

For example, you can now set the night mode to go live at …

Need a new feature phone? Verizon's LG Exalt LTE might be for you

Verizon Wireless this week started selling a feature phone (i.e. not a smartphone) made by LG: the LG Exalt LTE.

Presented as the carrier’s “first 4G LTE basic phone,” the new LG Exalt doesn’t feature CDMA connectivity at all, and seems to be Verizon’s first handset to do so. Of course, Verizon’s LTE network is currently covering most of the US, and the carrier plans to phase out CDMA services in December 2019, so we could say that the LG Exalt LTE kind of represents the future – a weird thing to say about a feature phone, we know.

The LG Exalt LTE sports a 3-inch internal display …

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 to feature Infinity Display, will launch with Android 7.1.1 installed?

Last week, we showed you a video that allegedly revealed the large front panel belonging to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Today, a new report out of the Netherlands suggests that the phablet’s 6.3-inch screen will have the same edge-to-edge Infinity Display as the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+. That means that the larger screen on the Galaxy Note 8 will keep the same 18.5:9 aspect ratio found on Sammy’s latest flagship models. That is considered a better ratio for watching videos than the 16:9 aspect ratio found on Samsung’s 2016 high-end models, including the twice-recalled Samsung …

Andy Rubin's Essential Phone should be released next month, will feature a new digital assistant

Officially announced earlier today, Andy Rubin’s Essential smartphone is undoubtedly one of the most interesting handsets we’ve seen in recent years. The phone is partially made out of titanium (which provides extra toughness), sports a 5.7-inch near-bezel-less display with 1312 x 2560 pixels, and is powered by Qualcomm’s mighty Snapdragon 835 processor – certainly, this device will go head to head with all the relevant flagships of 2017.

While the Essential Phone can already be reserved in the US, an exact release date for it hasn’t been provided. Fortunately, …
