Sony Xperia XZ Pro expected to be unveiled in February with 4K OLED display

Sony Mobile has already introduced three new smartphones earlier this month at CES (Consumers Electronics Show), but the Japanese company saved the best devices for Mobile World Congress (MWC), which will debut late next month.

One of the most expected Sony smartphones is probably the Xperia XZ Pro, the best of the best, top-of-the-line, one to rule them all, and possibly the company’s most expensive handset. The Xperia XZ Pro will be unveiled slightly ahead of MWC, but it will be showcased at the trade fair in February/March.

Apple starts offering its $29 battery replacements today, two days earlier than expected

A couple days ago, Apple apologized for throttling the CPU of certain iPhone models. Apple says that it did this so that the handsets’ lack of prime battery power wouldn’t shut them down when handling certain tasks. Along with the apology came a deal from the company. Since weak batteries are at the heart of the issue, Apple is allowing you to replace the cells on the iPhone 6 and up for $29. That is a $50 discount from the usual price of $79.

The deal was expected to start on January 1st 2018 and runs through the end of next year. An Apple spokesman said that it expected to need more time …

ZTE Axon 7 expected to receive Android 8.0 Oreo in April 2018

ZTE confirmed earlier this week it will provide Axon 7 owners with an Android 8.0 Oreo update at some point in the future. The Chinese company has already stopped Axon 7 production, which made us believe the high-end smartphone won’t be getting any major Android OS updates going forward.

ZTE’s announcement is a nice surprise for those who spent a small fortune to purchase the company’s flagship. Now, as far as the exact release date of the promised Android 8.0 Oreo update, ZTE Germany made some comments on the matter.

Apparently, Android 8.0 Oreo for ZTE …

Samsung expected to launch its first foldable smartphone in 2018, the Galaxy X

Samsung Galaxy X is a real device, of that we’re pretty sure. The main question is when exactly the South Korean giant will bring its first foldable smartphone on the market. Samsung was one of the first companies to launch a smartphone with a curved display, along with LG, but the Galaxy Round was only available in select countries.

But Samsung will not the be the only company to launch a foldable smartphone, as many other brands are working on such devices, including Apple and LG. However, Samsung fans will probably be the first to get their hands on a foldable …

Apple says that the number of iPhone X pre-orders received are much more than the company expected

Hours after Apple started accepting pre-orders for the Apple iPhone X, the company said that pre-orders are “off the charts,” indicating strong demand for the phone. An Apple representative called it the largest pre-order ever for the company, and stated that the number of phones preordered is well ahead of Apple’s forecast. As of 3pm EDT today, the Apple web site was indicating that new orders will ship in 5 to 6 weeks. Apple sold out its initial stock of iPhone X units quickly. For weeks, we have heard from several analysts that Apple was having issues manufacturing the tenth anniversary model …

Foxconn expected to ship only 25-30 million iPhone X units in 2017, down from 30-35 million

Apple will definitely have problems meeting iPhone X’s high demand, especially if we are to believe the latest reports and estimates coming from various more or less reliable sources.

Some of the data gathered by Taipei-based KGI Securities research company forecasts that Foxconn will only ship around 25-30 million iPhone X units in Q4 2017. Previously, the company’s analyst Ming-chi Kuo said around 30-35 million handsets will be shipped by the end of 2017.

On the bright side, iPhone X shipments are expected to reach a 50% on-quarter growth in Q1 2018 due …

HTC U11 expected to receive Android 8.0 Oreo as early as November

When Google launched Android 8.0 Oreo back in August, it also listed some of the smartphones and companies that will receive updates in the following months. HTC was mentioned in Google’s announcement, although the search giant did not specify which smartphones will be updated and when.

The only thing certain is the U11 will be the first HTC smartphone to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update. Even though initial reports pointed that such an update will be rolled out before 2018 begins, we managed to narrow it down to a shorter timeframe.

According to HTC leaker …
