Huawei, ZTE heavily reduce lobbying expenditures in the US, but remain sponsors of telecom events

It looks like Huawei and ZTE, the two big Chinese handset makers that are trying to penetrate the US smartphone market, have decided to take a pause stop pouring money into the pockets of US lobbyists.

If Huawei spent no less than $1.2 million back 2012 for lobbying in the US, the company spent just $50,000 last year, down from $348,500 in 2016. That’s quite a huge gap for Huawei, as the company is trying to convince the US government that it’s not a threat to national security.

On the other hand, ZTE usually spent between $130,000 and $240,000 every quarter from 2014 to 2015, for …

Following Pokemon GO Chicago Fest debacle, Niantic announced that four out of the seven live events planned for this summer across Europe had been pushed into fall. The US-based company confirmed earlier this month that seven European cities would host Pokemon GO safari zone events starting August.

Unfortunately, if you’ve already purchased tickets for any of the first four, then you’ll have to wait for Niantic to announce when they will take place since they have been postponed until a date late in the fall.

Initially, these events were scheduled for August …

Ticketmaster will use audio data from your phone to admit you to events

Ticketmaster is partnering with LISNR, a Cincinnati-based
data-over-sound company, to bring sonic ticket verification to their venues.
Instead of scanning a QR code or tapping an NFC tile, LISNR’s technology
enables Ticketmaster customers to verify and gain entry to events by playing a
unique sound called a “smart tone” directly from their phone. These sonic waves
are made in the 18.75 kHz and 19.2kHZ range – completely inaudible to more than
90 percent of the human population. Within them, lies your unique ticket
information which is given to you at the time of purchase. No radios …

Google is improving Search app on iOS with a new view and some additional filters that allow users to fine-tune their search for events and activities.

The new feature is available on the Google app and mobile web in the United States, so don’t try to use it in other countries. It’s called Events, and it will bring up a compact summary of activities from sites from across the web like Eventbrite and Meetup whenever you do a search using Google’s app.

For example, let’s say you search for “jazz concerts in Austin,” or “art events this weekend,” Google Search will now show …
