Duo video calls can now be sent to Android users who haven't installed the app

Ever ask a friend or family member to install Google’s video chat app Duo so that you can stream live video to him/her? No longer is that necessary, thanks to an update pushed out by Google. Duo will now send video chats to those with Android phones who have yet to download the app on to their handset. Like a regular Duo call, the recipient of the video chat sees live video from the caller even before deciding to accept the call. Scrolling up from the phone icon will start the conversation.

Other Duo features are available such as the ability to switch from the front-facing selfie camera …

You can now start a Duo video chat right in the middle of a regular phone call

Google has started rolling out a new feature on its Phone app that allows a Duo video call to be started up in the middle of a regular voice call. If you are using the Google Phone app and you call someone who has Duo installed on their device, you will see a new button added to the Phone app’s in-call list of options. Labeled “Video call” and paired with the Duo icon, pressing this button will disconnect the original phone call and launch the Duo app on both ends of the conversation.

If the recipient of the call isn’t decent, or doesn’t want to be on camera for one reason or another, the …

Google Duo 21 hints that users will be able to send audio and video messages to contacts

According to a report published today, video conferencing app Duo could soon be used to send and receive audio and video messages to and from contacts. Breaking down Duo 21 reveals button-like icons that users would press to start and stop the recording of a video message. Also discovered in this teardown are several strings that are related to the message notification that a recipient would receive from Duo. The notification reveals if the message is via voice or video, and who it is from. Of course, a Watch or Listen button would be included depending on the form the message takes.

Update to Duo adds video calls to your phone's native call log

Google’s video chat app Duo has been a mighty fine addition for both Android and iOS users, and some new features make Duo even more capable. Anyone in your Android contacts list who you’ve called using Duo can be the recipient of a voice-only or video-only call. This is a great feature to use when you are not looking your best, or you don’t want the other end of the call to hear background noise. The Knock Knock feature allows the recipient of a Duo video call to see a few seconds of the caller live before the connection is officially made. This allows the person receiving the call to see who …

Much like Facetime, Google Duo now integrates with your Android's call history

Google’s Allo and Duo are the Android-maker’s latest entries in the world of chat apps. Yes, we do mean to say “latest”, as there have been quite a lot of them over the years. For some reason, Google just chooses to scrap one project and move on to the next.

But that said, it seems that Allo and Duo are here to stay. They are by far the most polished of Google’s communication tools, and they are still being developed. Duo is the voice chat app and Allo is the texting app, which may or may not get SMS integration in the future.

It’s easy to draw parallels between Google’s Duo and Apple’s …

Google's streaming video chat app Duo hits 100 million downloads

It took nine months for Google’s streaming video chat app Duo to reach its first 50 million downloads. It took only two months for the next 50 million downloads to take place, and right now Duo has been installed over 100 million times. While there aren’t any figures that tell us how often Duo is actually being employed, Google has made Duo a snap to use. In addition, starting last March Google released an update allowing audio calls to be placed over Duo. This makes the app even more useful.

Perhaps the most important thing that ran up the installation tally was the fact that in December, …
